awesome. I read about that app -- it's supposed to be released to android soon as well! the card search feature sounds cool (though you'll have to pay to add cards from subsequent sets). dunno about the life counter stuff. I see people use those sorts of apps at friday night magic events, and it seems sort of silly to me. put your phone away and pull out your dice! or paper and pen.

I should say that the Duels games are rather poor training for paper Magic. Duels is great for just learning how to play the game, but you don't get to build decks, invent combos, maximize synergies, and so on. But hey, Duels is a fun way to get one's Magic fix on the console.

For those wanting to get into paper magic on the cheap, you might look into Intro decks and Event decks. Both are types of pre-constructed decks. The former run for $14 and the latter for $25. The latter are more competitive decks if you plan to go to a local tournament.

Soon-to-be-released Dark Ascension Intro Decks: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/894
Already-released Innistrad Event Decks: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/817

@Darklurkr23: Oh, Pedro and I would LOVE to break out the physical decks... but it just got too expensive and it takes too much time to set up. I'll get started on the Magic game we got for free with our PS+ subs and take it from there.

Ok, you mentioned it, Darklurkr, so I'll admit it: I was to the prerelease shenanigans last weekend and did the 6-pack sealed event (3 packs from ISD, 3 packs from DKA). I pulled a Sorin, Lord of Innistrad! Made an awesome white/black deck. Played six rounds, went 5-1. Ten hour long event. We didn't do a top eight, just handed out prizes after the sixth round based on current standings. I was 5th place out of 78! I'm still excited -- my first MTG competition! :)

BTW, Dark Ascension officially releases this coming Saturday (Feb. 4, 2012) -- last weekend was the preview.
