The thing is, EVE online is not free and from my understanding there will be purchasable items in EVE store that will grant you "better experience". Which basically means, you will have to pay to get the big guns. Guild Wars, one of my favorite MMO of all time is free to play, even the sequel Guild Wars 2 will be free to play. I think most game developers are realizing that charging a small fee for playing a game is not in most people interests. The days of WOW are presumably over. A free to play online FPS is not new to the industry, we will have to wait and see how this whole thing will be connected to EVE universe and how much will that effect the gameplay. I'm actually more concerned because it's free than if it wasn't. The developer has no confidence in its product whatsoever otherwise this shouldn't happen... OR you'll get a crappy free experience.
