LittleBigPlanet Karting Officially Announced

Sony has formally announced Little Big Planet Karting for the PS3. While the surprise may have been spoiled a few weeks early when Canadian retailer Future Shop leaked a poster for the game during the PlayStation Destination event, today we get our first look at gameplay for the new title.

In the capable hands of the studio that brought us ModNation Racers, LBPK will feature four player multiplayer, gadgets from previous installments of the platformer plus new ones and a whole lot more. Without revealing too much about the racer developers United Front Games promise that players will be able to “modify the rules of the game itself to create completely new modes and challenges.”

Sackboy takes to the races later this year.

Having not played MNR I don’t see the difference. Sure MNR emphasized track building but I’m not seeing anything in that trailer that confirms track building isn’t part of this game.

Honestly I just feel like if I was a MNR developer I got slapped in the face with someone penis. We’ve always said MNR was like LBP but for karts… now that doesn’t work. On a surface level there’s just nothing that tells me this isn’t MNR: LBP edition.

@Oly: Not a clone? It reeeeks of Mod racers cloning! Also, can’t someone just make this game on LBP2 since it’s supposed to be such an awesome venue for creating games?

@Eden I’ve played some awesome levels in LBP2 but I really don’t believe it’s possible to create a 3D game with fully customizable vehicles and the ability to manipulate certain gadgets at the same time.

Sony really trying to turn Sackboy into Mario. Wonder how long until he gets his own Sports game hehehe.

I have to side with EdEN on this. If you can create a Karting event in LBP2 what’s the point of a LBP Karting game? We also have mod racers, which is a fantastic Karting game BTW. The only thing I am excited about is the fact that this game could actually be the Mario Kart of PS3, something I miss a lot.
