God of War: Ascension Trailer Leaked [Update]

Look’s like our pal Kratos is back with an all new installment in the God of War franchise. If there is any doubt that this game will be released for the PS3 system, this trailer just answers it all. There should be an official announcement sometime tomorrow.

Amazon.com already has a listing for the game with this early cover being shown.

It’s worth mentioning that this is a prequel.

The major competitor for third person melee brawler is Rocksteady’s Batman games. Rocksteady did a better job at adding game mechanic variety. God of War has a bigger and better art department, and subjectively a better setting.

For a new God Of War game, I have two basic wish list items:

    – A first person look feature. I don’t want to play the game in first person perspective, but sometimes I’d like to stop and look around and enjoy the scenery from a first person perspective.
    – More dynamic and dramatic camera particularly for special finishing moves.

I’d also love to see action games evolve beyond the standard linear and scripted structure, but that’s a broader comment on the entire action genre.

As long as it’s single player only? Great!

I could imagine this taking a more Heavenly Sword approach. Fighting hundreds of enemies on screen, no magical powers, just a plain bad-ass guy kicking some Spartan ass and taking names. Giving the release dates of the previous installments, all were released on he moth of March, I think we are in for a March 2013 release. Hopefully in E3 we will have more info, especially regarding the set and the time.

This looks so cool. I haven’t played any of the God of War games but this just might get me to play it. lol

Kind of expected it to be a prequel, giving what’s happened in the last installment… but to be honest, I’m not really excited unless they freshen up the gameplay a little bit.

I find it interesting that on the official site they have it listed as God of War 4: Ascension, maybe it a sequel.. or it could just be the codename they are using for it right now

When I saw this last night I was like WOW. I can’t wait for this. I want it to be longer than 3. Thats all I want, and also I don’t the bodies of the enemies to disappear all the time. I want to see the piles of bodies ive butchered. It always bothered me.

And I am guessing this is the secret game The testers got to play the day they went into the studio.

I wonder where exactly this will fit in the timeline considering both psp games. Ive played every god of war game, and will definitely want to play this one.

I own all three majors.. actually i got the collection so I do own all five games.. still haven’t had time to play any of them. so.. I’m sure I don’t really “get” the trailer. I’m just really surprised this is getting yet another entry. I mean how far back can they go?

@kennygk, People always get confused when you have prequels. I’m sure a lot of people internally call it GoW4, because that’s how they think of it from a real life perspective, even though it’s inaccurate from a fictional narrative chronology.

How bout Metal Gear Solid 3?

Uhhh didnt thank a new GoW game would come out for the ps3, I thought it would be for ps4 if they made a new GoW game, and it would be a bundle type package deal that comes with the ps4 just to have a reason to get people to buy the ps4 and it would probably work lol, but its cool its comeing for ps3. I played all 5 games and platinum all, really would like to see what else in store they have for Kratos. Read somewere it wont come out untill 2013 sometime. heres a link below to read a little more etc…

I completely disagree @Darrin I think numbers reflect release chronology not the internal one. Calling this GoW4 wouldn’t be inaccurate form a fictional narrative.. calling it the fourth GoW game might be though.

So this game is a prequel to a prequel? I guess I have to play God of War Collection, Origins Collection and 3 then before I play this game. Just hoping it holds up to the standards of the previous God of War games.
