Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed | PS3Blog.net

French IG Magazine’s June/July issue interviewed Hideo Kojima and he has confirmed that development for Metal Gear Solid 5 is underway.

“There will be a MGS5 with the new Fox Engine,” confirmed Kojima, “but what we showed was not the in-game play, or something like that, says Hideo Kojima. It was only a demo that we had developed internally and that we released because the lighting and all interactions with the environment had fooled everyone.”

Kojima also goes on to say that “Metal Gear Solid 5 will have much more espionage, infiltration, and more people to give you a ‘favor’,” much like previous metal gears. I like the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see how it works with MGS. He goes on to say that if he says “anymore, the female ninja public relations officer will come after me and carve me to pieces. So it’s better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about MGS5.”

Mr. Kojima also mentioned Metal Gear Rising. “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is not a Solid Snake game. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We are not yet finished with Solid Snake. Despite that fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.”

All the quotes are translated from the French site, gamekyo.

  • haha solid snake will never die. Wonder where he is going to go with this one

  • I hope its a playstation exclusive, what do u guys think. Since MGS1 and MGS4 are the only ones to stay on PS.

  • wOOt!!!!! 😛

  • @xDeFcoN_2FasT4Ux Considering that The Fox Engine was developed to be multi-platform, it’s a safe bet that MGS5 will be, too. Which is good news for me, since I still haven’t gotten around to replacing my PS3.

I hate to say it but,
With the amount of money needed to develop games at the level of MGS5 it’s not good busines to limit it to one type of platform. Keep in mind that Metal Gear started life on the MSX2 and NES systems and has moved on to be featured Game Boy, Cell Phones, PC, C64, XBOX, and the HD Collection brought the core of the series the X360. And lets not mention how MGS4 had achievements on day one and PS3 is still waiting for the overly promised Trophies update. (Still waiting Kojima!)

As for MGS5 itself I’m very excited, Kojima has hinted at the project a few times over the past few years and has said this will be his last MG project but intends for it to be the MG project he’s remembered for. (As if we’d for get the rest)

and yet I haven’t got around to play MGS4 …

  • he always says the next MG will be his last poor Kojima getting bossed by his company

  • i’m just glad there will be another metal gear. leaving the series off with raiden didn’t seem like a good idea to me.

Metal Gear Rising is a spin-off. It could become the next line in the Metal Gear saga, but not part of the Metal Gear Solid line.

Now, the question is, Snake was in bad shape at the end of MGS4. Would he even be able to handle it in MGS5? I am thinking we’re going to see another flashback title. Possibly the modern MGS take on the original Metal Gear titles? It would still be Solid Snake, just a much younger version. It could also be between MGS and MGS2, with Snake and Otacon in Philanthropy.

I just don’t see an honest sequel happening, though. A prequel would have to be imminent, although it could also be told through flashbacks of the current/old Snake.

  • @Cheeto and I thought I was the only one who hasn’t played MGS4 yet 😛

  • wolfkin

    dude i haven’t played MGS1 yet.
