@Eden @Tedrabear : No, he is talking about piracy, illegally sharing his books and comics on the web, he is not sharing his own material for free.

Anyway, I agree that his expenses are much less significant than what's necessary to create a game, but I just wanted to illustrate the fact that this specific point has some ground to it. Of course this is one of these situations where the only way to be sure would be to stop it completely (a thing that's pretty much impossible) and see the outcome.

Speaking of personal experiences, I've numerous times ended up buying various CDs from bands I've first heard online or by downloading the songs.

I have been watchn ebay for a original copy (with box hopefully) of journey of silius for the nes to add to my collection of nes games with the boxes. For me they are way more apealling.

@Clint: What consoles can't you conect to a modern day TV? Most still have the areal input socket and for most that's all you need, if you're a mad collector for the 'truly' ancent then you might as well hunt donw the classic TV to play it on too.

@Jay: Sega is one of the best examples of why we shouldn't download old games, a few Sega favorites are coming back into the forefront as PSN, XBL or Wii store downloads, that's excluding the remakes.

@Pedrolabate: Yeah, but those are on web sites where he's selling his books, I bet he isn't getting increesed sales from Pirate bay. : P

@pedrolabate: Well, we have to remember that Neil Gaiman is cool, and he understands how online distribution for free can help promote his work. What we DO have to remember, is that it doesn't cost him $40 million to write a book hehehe.
