@nekod: I'm totally with you, but I highly doubt that Wizards will ever give us free reign over deck building in the Duels series, as they want people to buy into Magic Online. And in MTGO, you have to pay for cards and buy into tournaments, just like in paper Magic, so it's a much more profitable business for Wizards. Duels's primary function is to hook new players.

The only disappointing thing, for me, with the new Magic video games, is that they lack deck building which is something I always enjoy immensely with TCGs. Oh well, maybe 2014. Although I believe because of balancing issues they weren’t going to do any genuine deck building, at all.

@EdEN: haha, you’ve been threatening to do so for something like two years now! dude, forget duels 09 — the series has gotten better and better. duels 12 is far superior thanks to better deck balance, and duels 13 is better still thanks to the manual tapping of lands (and again, better balanced decks). also, duels 13 has many more card unlocks (as many as 40 unlocks per deck, including the promotional unlocks) vs. duels 12′s 16 default unlocks, or 20 unlocks if you get the first dlc for it. this affords more robust customization of the decks, of course.

Damn, every time you do a review for the new games or the DLC, I’m reminded I need to jump into the first game. Perhaps this is the weekend for it.
