PS3BlogCast Episode 91 – Plus $20 PSN giftcard giveaway

May 29, 2013 | | 14 Comments

It’s the end of May and E3 is right around the corner, not to mention The Last of Us. I’m looking forward to both, and even Man of Steel the same weekend as Naughty Dog’s next game.

MissXya is out this week, so it’s up to Isli and me to hold the fort. We do a fine job, as usual, talking about this week in news. There wasn’t a lot of it, but I’m sure E3 will change all of that once it starts.

We also have our monthly PSN gift card giveaway. So sit down, relax, and enjoy!

Deadpool Box-art and Wolverine Announcement

May 29, 2013 | | 3 Comments

Oh hey, LOOK, it’s everyone’s faaaaaaaaavorite comic book character – Wolverine – appearing in yet ANOTHER thing he doesn’t belong in – MY upcoming video game from Activision Publishing, Inc. and Marvel Entertainment, DEADPOOL, starring ME, Deadpool, and NOBODY ELSE.

Who approved this?! What is with everyone loving Wolverine when I am cooler in every possible way? Who has the cooler costume color palette? Deadpool. Who can fight in melee AND at range? Deadpool! Who forgets his past through repression, like a NORMAL PERSON, rather than dumb amnesia? DEADPOOL!

Sigh…some top brass are telling me I’m contractually obligated to say ONE nice thing about Wolverine before I go, so here goes…

Dear Wolverine: I guess, when put aside the grand history of human conflict and suffering, the lame tank tops you insist on wearing sometimes aren’t THAT bad, bub.

Looking forward to working with you,

[Vita Review] Soul Sacrifice

May 24, 2013 | | 2 Comments

Soul Sacrifice is arguably the best game I have ever played for the PlayStation Vita. This is Sony Computer Entertainment Japan’s answer to the popular “Monster Hunter” series. Keiji Inafune is well known for the Onimusha and MegaMan series that he created for Capcom. Now he’s back with this brand new IP for Sony.

Without giving anything away, the game is very mission based. You have your typical collect/find items and kill the boss type of scenarios. Instead of dinosaur type monsters, though, you wage battle with evil, demonic, trippy looking creatures. From Cerberus to a Harpy, even a possessed Rat. What’s impressive about this game is the character design and stages. The creatures that you fight are gloriously well drawn and animated. You gotta have some type of imagination to be able to think of these type of creatures. They do not look typical at all. A lot of reviews I read for this game just talk about the gameplay and multiplayer aspect, however there is more to it than that.

[PSN Review] Thomas Was Alone

May 23, 2013 | | 5 Comments

Thomas Was Alone is the critically acclaimed indie platformer about friendship and jumping. Guide a group of sentient rectangles through a series of environments, combining their skills to reach the end of each level. Listen to awesome music by David Housden, negotiate obstacles meticulously placed by Mike Bithell and immerse yourself in the characters’ journey with a voiceover read wistfully and amusingly by Danny Wallace.

Discover the story of the world’s first sentient AIs, and how they worked together to, well… “escape” is a strong word. “Emerge” might be better. “Emerge” has an air of importance about it, while keeping a plethora of plot twists and origin stories under wraps. We didn’t even mention the bouncing. That’d be overkill.

100 levels.
12 playable characters, each with unique characteristics and abilities.
Story narrated by Danny Wallace.
Soundtrack by critically acclaimed composer David Housden.
Commentary for every level by creator Mike Bithell.
