[PS3 Review] Sacred 3

Sacred 3 Header Image - D

Sacred 3 is an arcade Hack ‘n’ Slash game for up to four players, set in the war for Ancaria. Choose from legendary heroes and fight together against the rise of evil. You will face hordes of grimmocs, brute beasts, legions of mercenaries and undead wizards. Develop your character’s skills and abilities and band together to use powerful co-op abilities and tactics. Victory Is Ours. Glory Is Mine.

* Play as one of the legendary heroes, each with unique skills and weapons
* Master special attacks and quickly decimate hoards of enemies
* Perform powerful co-op combat arts to defeat epic bosses together
* Level up and customize your hero, outshine your fellow warriors
* Equip dynamic weapon spirits to empower your journey

The legendary heroes mentioned above can be selected from the Seraphim, Ancarian, Khukuhri, Safiri or Malakhim cultures (the last one is available as DLC), and they each have strengths and disadvantages to consider. Each hero offers a different play style that will match how the player tackles this type of game (strong character that has a short range, weak character with a longer reach, and so on).

The money you earn can be used to purchase single use items to heal yourself or the members of your group, or to help your special skills to refill, which can be just what is needed to get out of a hard spot. Money can also be used to upgrade your weapons, armor and skills… as long as you’ve leveled-up enough to unlock the next upgrade for each one. This can allow the player to tailor their gaming experience by making it possible to focus on specific weapons and skills that favor a particular play style.

Sacred 3 - 1

And speaking of items, you must know that the game features several smaller levels that reward players with a chance to earn some quick experience and gold. Sometimes there is even an extra reward available that will increase the total stock a player can hold off a particular item, which is always a plus. Just remember to review the recommended level for tackling these side-quests, and be prepared!

Sacred 3 - 2

The game can be enjoyed in single player mode (which I did for most of my experience), but there is also an online component that allows you to join other player’s game or to invite friends to your game (or even keep it open to the public so that anyone can join). Online multiplayer was smooth and very fun, and I only ran into one problem after playing for several hours. Since all players need to stand inside of the checkpoint circle in order to continue advancing through the level, a couple of times we had one or two players go “AFK” (so to speak), and this kept the rest of us waiting for them to catch-up. When it’s YOUR game they’re playing in you can just kick them and carry on, but when you’re in someone else’s game, you’ll either have to wait or quit the online match.

Sacred 3 - 3

Sacred 3 is a fun action game in the Diablo vein that drops the loot portion in favor of more action and RPG leveling-up conventions. With four characters to select and level up, an enjoyable offline and online experience, funny writing and a ton of content to play, Sacred 3 is a good game for your collection. It might not innovate or bring something new to the table, but it does things right.
