It’s that time of the month again for the PS Plus games to be announced. This month we can take a tour of Tokyo in style, trickily build some towers, and then pata some pon to the beat. Let’s jump in!
PlayStation Plus Free PS4 Games Lineup August 2016
As you can see, they are:
Tricky Towers takes the familiar mechanic of placing tetromino bricks and provides a twist with the addition of real world physics and a competitive multiplayer focus. The goal is to build a tower higher, faster and better than your opponents. This is made more difficult by gravity’s constant pull, the seemingly gentle breeze and the devilish dark magic attacks from the other players. There are some light magic spells provided to help you out – but casting a light spell will cancel out your chance to cast a dark spell for a while so you need to choose carefully between supporting your own tower or messing with the towers of your opponents. There are three different multiplayer modes. Race is all about beating the other players to a soaring finish line; Survival involves placing a certain number of bricks before everyone else without dropping too many and losing your health; and Puzzle slows down the pace a little by challenging players to place as many bricks as possible below a cutoff point. The shortness of the matches and the pick-up-and-play nature of Tricky Towers make it perfect for parties. Next to local and online multiplayer Tricky Towers contains 50 single player trials where players can hone their skills and crack some tough puzzles, and an endless leaderboard mode to see how long players can survive against the elements.
Rebel Galaxy is a swashbuckling space adventure, with action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and “negotiation” with the outlandish denizens at the edge of the known universe.
As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you’ll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.
The edge of the universe is a pretty dangerous place, so watch your back.
The legendary dragon returns to the criminal underworld of Yakuza. Kazuma Kiryu, once known as the Dragon of Dojima, was living a quiet life as a taxi driver in Hakata after severing all his ties with the underworld. However, at the dawn of the bloody war between the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance, Kazuma is forced to accept his inescapable fate and returns to a life filled with crime and violence to protect his loved ones. Yakuza 5 continues the epic story of Kazuma Kiryu and 4 other protagonists, Haruka Sawamura, Taiga Saejima, Tatsuo Shinada and Shun Akiyama. The saga plays out across 5 major Japanese cities – Tokyo, Osaka, Hakata, Nagoya and Sapporo. Yakuza 5 also features “Another Drama” which is a series of extensive sub-plots that focus on each protagonist. The battle system and customization system have been enhanced from Yakuza 4 and various mini-games are available in the well-known locales from the series including infamous night clubs and popular CLUB SEGA locations.
EdEN had a lot of fun with Yakuza 5, and you can read this review by clicking right here. This is definitely one of the best PlayStation 3 games for the console, so the fact that PS Plus members are getting it for free makes August a great month.

A bit of a softer month this time. We are getting a PS4 debut with Tricky Towers which looks interesting, a puzzle stacking game. Rebel Galaxy is supposed to be pretty good with some great critical praise. Yakuza 5 is a more recent PS3 entry and the timing is great with the announcement of Yakuza 0 coming exculizivy to PS4. Ultratron will be playable on all 3 systems, giving a little extra bang for your buck, we liked it here. Finally a PSP game for Vita that would make the illustrious Greg Miller happy, Patapon!! Still no trophies, but a fun game.
