Grim Fandango, one of the all-time greatest games ever, was remastered and released on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita last year. How did it hold up after its upgrade into the 21st century? Come read our Grim Fandango Remastered review to find out!
I recently had the bug to go back and platinum Grim Fandango Remastered. I played through it when I reviewed the game back in early 2015 but left a considerable amount of trophies on the table. So I took a run at getting the platinum this time around… and succeeded!
The game is a master class in character design, story, and atmosphere that many games could take a page from. It’s about the 4-year story of Manny Calavera and his quest to help Meche reach the afterlife as her travel guide/grim reaper. The game does so many things right that it really stands the test of time.
What does not stand the test of time, however, is the original control scheme… the devs know it, so now there is a newly updated control scheme for you to try! However, if you want to earn the trophy “The Right Way” you have to play the whole game with the original tank controls. It’s a pain, but worth it overall for the trophy and the experience.
Since its re-release, I have heard some complaints about the puzzles being obtuse and difficult, but I found them to work out well. That being said, I did play this back in 1998 when it was originally released on PC – and I still have my PC copy – so I didn’t go blindly into it.
Everyone should really play this game either at home or one the go. If you haven’t enjoyed it yet, be sure to check your collection because it was a free PS+ game a few months ago!
