[PS4] Mekazoo Review | PS3Blog.net
Mekazoo is a bright and colorful 2D platformer in 3D worlds. You can explore each location with a wide range of weird and wonderful animals in blue. You will jump, hop and speed your way through many levels collecting gears and unlocking new playable animals. Want to learn more? Then read our Mekazoo review!
You start the game as an Armadillo who wakes up in a lab. He is no ordinary Armadillo – he is a mechanical version of an Armadillo with a need for speed that would give Sonic the Hedgehog a run for his money! The first level of the game is your tutorial, giving you an opportunity to learn how the mechanics work. Once you have completed the tutorial, you will be transported to a bright and luscious world. The sheer beauty of the game is absolutely STUNNING. Mekazoo is gorgeous.
You will unlock the five animals through natural gameplay. After the Armadillo you will unlock the Frog, a handy animal who can grapple with his tongue! Each animal has its own set of behaviors and abilities. For example, if you need to go up high ramps then the Armadillo is who you need since he can spin and dash up. As you unlock more animals the levels will become crazier, and the difficulty will ramp up considerably, but in a fun kind of way. Eventually, you will be using all five animals for puzzle solving. You can change the animal you need with a simple press of the Square button.
The key to success is mastering the abilities of each animal. There is some trial and error involved when you’re trying to speedrun some of the objectives. But once you learn the level layout you’ll master each challenge in no time.
You’ll eventually reach one of the game’s challenging boss battles. If you manage to learn the strengths and weaknesses of each boss and defeat it, you’ll unlock the next playable animal in the list. The most interesting boss I ran into is basically designed to represent a pinball table. Overall, the boss designs are really clever and interesting.
The music in the game is fantastic, featuring a very upbeat techno style tempo. Due to the fast-paced nature of game, the music greatly complements the action on the screen.
There is a lot of replayability for Mekazoo as you will have to repeat levels a few times to obtain all the gems and gears. Gears are unlocked for completing certain challenges or objectives. As you can imagine, this increases the total time you’ll be spending with this release if you want to 100% it. This is particularly true of the trophies since there’s one that requires that you complete the game with no deaths which is very tough, especially during boss battles. But if you manage to master the game, you’ll end up with a very rewarding Platinum trophy for your collection!
I absolutely loved my time with the game for my Mekazoo review. This is exactly the type of game I did not know I wanted to play. It surprised me in a good way with it’s great visuals, solid gameplay and challenge. I highly recommend you play this one!
Fun gameplay mechanics that are easy to learn.
