[PS4] The Sexy Brutale Review | PS3Blog.net
The Sexy Brutale is a charming game from Cavalier Game Studios and Tequila Works where death is around every corner! You are tasked with solving a mystery at The Sexy Brutale, and must gather up clues and save everyone else from the killer(s) before it is too late! Want to learn more? Then read our The Sexy Brutale review!
You play as Lafcadio Boone who must investigate what is going on at The Sexy Brutale. You’re very interested in doing this because you’re sorta dead… or something. Thanks to the help of a mysterious lady, you’ll get a chance to fix things. After you get up, you’ll be able to move around with the left analog stick as you interact with everything around you with the X button. You’ll spy other areas through the keyhole on each door with the Square button so that you can learn more about what is going on. You can also use the L2 button to listen behind doors to make sure there is no one too close to your spot.
You see, the mysterious lady in red gave you a great gift when she touched your mask: it makes you invisible to the people in The Sexy Brutale, but only for a short period. Turns out the staff in the mansion are murderers and the guests who have been invited are victims. This is happening because of the masks they are wearing. After you learn this, she will give you a pocketwatch, and asks that you return it to its rightful owner. You know, once you save him from being killed.
At first, the pocketwatch is broken, so you can only use it to restart the day from 12 p.m. and on. Since it’s a partially smashed, it resets at 5 p.m. There is an option for fixing it later in the game so that you can gain a larger control over time itself once it has been repaired, so you’ll certainly get to have a lot of fun with this clever gameplay mechanic. It is then that time rewinds back to 12 p.m., and you begin your quest to save Reginal Sixpence and the other guests invited to The Sexy Brutale.
As you explore, your map will be slowly crated with the rooms you discover and visit. It will also note down the movement of the characters you have seen, which is very handy when you want to follow a character’s routine so that you can start to plan your course of action. The more you play, the more valuable your map will become as it notes down the actions of more and more of the characters you’ll interact with.
Revealing anything else about the game would definitely ruin your experience since the plot twists and new gameplay elements introduced as you go are what make the game an easy one to recommend. Trust me, you’re going to love the gameplay not to mention the story as it develops!
The Sexy Brutale includes a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, and plenty of things to do before you can get it! There’s a trophy for collecting every single card in the mansion – there are 52 cards in total. Another one asks that you possess all nine invitations sent to guests. But the good news is that a large number of the trophies are story related, so you’ll unlock a considerable amount of trophies as you enjoy the game.
I had a lot of fun with The Sexy Brutale. It’s a short game that does something interesting by giving us a “Groundhog Day” style release where you replay the story from different perspectives as you use the information you gather to save all victims. Overall, you’re looking at around 6-9 hours to 100% the game before you can add a new Platinum trophy to your collection. I highly recommend you get this charming and fun release on PS4 so that you too can explore what The Sexy Brutale has to offer.
