[Review] Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddon

September 11, 2011 | | 3 Comments

Ugly Americans is a game based on the Comedy Central show by the same name. It’s set on a bizarre world where demons and abominations far outnumber the human population, and everything from the Apocalypse to a giant ape with OCD can happen, all in a day’s work.

The game is very simple and straight forward: it’s a brawler with two-stick shooting mechanics, so as you kill man-birds (a half human, half pigeon thing), zombies, and some rocker demons, you’ll be making your way to the right side of the screen. Levels are packed with enemies and it’s not particularly difficult to get overrun by them if you’re not careful. Luckily every character has a special attack that will deal a great amount of damage to all enemies; you can do this every once in a while when the special bar is refilled.

Since this game works out as a shooter, you’re better off keeping your distance from everything else on the screen, because you don’t have a melee attack (and that basically means you’re screwed if something gets to close). You have a nice selection of weapons (more like projectiles) that have different properties like exploding or piercing, so you should plan accordingly before entering a level. I wish you could carry at least two at the same time, in order to safely manage all situations. You’ll also be able to carry babies around, each provide you with different bonuses.

Review: Deathspank: The Baconing

September 8, 2011 | | 12 Comments

Deathspank: The Baconing isn’t your average PSN Title. Its graphics far exceeded my expectations, and some of the features are far from the standard on titles like this. The game is first and foremost a hack and slash, but the most interesting aspect of the game is the over-the-top humor. With that said, my experience with the game had mixed results. Even though it certainly offered me good entertainment, a game breaking glitch (that happened on the 4th “chapter”) prevented me from finishing it, so I took it to heart and gathered enough information to finish writing this.

Is the PS Vita “a car wreck”?

August 15, 2011 | | 15 Comments

I think it’s safe to say most of us are very excited about the (unfortunately delayed) PS Vita launch, but apparently that’s not how Lyle Hall and Matthew Seymour, developers at Heavy Iron Studios, feel. (on a side note, this studio is mostly responsible for adaptations from movies like Up, Wall-e, Incredibles and Ratatouille according to wikipedia)

These guys are really questioning the sales price of the product saying that “if people aren’t willing to pay $249 for a Nintendo 3DS why would they pay $299 for Vita?”. These guys believe mobile gaming is the future because “people don’t want to carry more than one thing in their pocket, that’s why Android and iPhone have done so well, they are the devices of choice, they offer multiple functions outside of gaming”
