Uncharted movie delayed. MIGHT see light of day in 2012!

Although the Uncharted series on the PS3 has been a great success, it doesn’t seem like it’s getting as much love on the big screen. According to Los Angeles Times director David O. Russell (Spanking the Monkey, I Heart Huckabees, and Three Kings) seems to have dropped out of the project. It has now been reported by the Los Angeles Times that the studio is going to be starting. It seems that Columbia and the producers might try to attach a blockbuster cast to play the male and female roles for the movie before searching for a Director.
I for one would love to see this movie since I really enjoyed both games. I can only hope that they get a great director for the movie, someone that has that “Indiana Jones” or “The Mummy” touch. I do have to admit that I am extremely excited about the movie, but with 2012 being the end of the world. I’m not sure if we are ever going to see this come to fruition.

Sony already approaching directors for Uncharted movie
Posted by Ace in Featured, PS3, Talk, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted Movie on May 4th, 2010

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is definitely off to Hollywood! Sony’s hell-bent on bringing Nathan Drake’s action-packed treasure-hunting adventure to the big screen that they’ve already met with director David O. Russell to get things going.
According to The Los Angeles Times, Sony approached the director regarding his potential work for the movie, but that there are in fact several other directors that the company is considering for the job. The report describes it as “the meeting stage, and not close to the deal making one.”
Hugh Jackman starring in Uncharted film?
Posted by T0SH in Uncharted Movie on October 29th, 2009

The voice of Nathan Drake (Nolan North) has hinted that he would like to see Hugh Jackman play the part of Nathan Drake in the upcoming movie. Supposedly Hugh Jackman is the front-runner for the part. Could you see Wolverine .. I mean Hugh play Nathan? I could see it if he did his own stunts.
“Jackman is who I’d like to see. I think the producers would like to see Jackman too, because he has that tough guy exterior, but [...] there’s also a lot going on behind his eyes. A lot of emotion and sensitivity on that brusque exterior, and he has great comic timing. He’s a phenomenal actor. I just hope I get a part on the movie so I can work with Hugh.”

Film Adaptation of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune Official
Posted by Jay in PS3, Uncharted Movie on June 29th, 2009
That’s right, it’s been officially confirmed. Would have had this posted on Saturday, but I did leave it in the Community. No word on casting or anything like that, but here’s info from the Official PlayStation Blog:
I am happy to confirm that it is indeed true, Sony Computer Entertainment has signed a deal with Columbia Pictures for a movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and it will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner. We have been working with Avi and the folks and Columbia for quite some time and look forward to sharing additional details on the film in the short future. Obviously we designed the game to be a cinematic experience and we too can’t wait to see it on the big screen.
Details are still a bit short, but, according to the Hollywood Reporter, it will take place during the first Uncharted game:
The story follows a descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is racheted up several notches when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.
We all know the usual happenings when either a game gets adapted into a movie, or a movie into a game, but hopefully we won’t have to witness the same fate for this great series. If done right, considering the cinematic quality of the game, this could potentially be a very good thing. Hopefully they don’t screw it up!
