Poll Results and New Poll: Are you ready for the next generation of consoles?

[tab:Poll Results]

To begin, we apologize for this very long running poll. which has been up since, oh God, November? Anyway, in total, we only had 213 votes. For the most part, people seem satisfied with the overall look of the XMB, with most of the people only wanting some minor changes (and Very Satisfied isn’t too far behind, either, and neither is the option for those who are OK with it). Out of the negative choices, love for the 360 dashboard still outranked people who don’t care or weren’t satisfied with it.

On a personal note, I actually like the XMB. The only real thing I’d like to have is a better way to sort and group things (and a search feature) to make finding specific stuff easier, as the grouping and album creating stuff now can get a little cumbersome over time, especially since there are more and more PSN, errr, SEN games on peoples’ consoles (as well as photos, videos, music, etc).

[tab:New Poll]

This Poll Idea comes from Cheeto (who will get the 200 points for the idea), and it’s asking the question a lot of people might be asking right now, and that’s whether or not you’re ready for the next generation of consoles (I was actually going to ask about the PSN/SEN change, but figured no one would really care). Anyway, have at it! Choices range from “Take my money already!” to “I could care less.”

Given this point in time, these results could really go either way.

Poll Results and New Poll: Are You Satisfied with the XMB?

[tab:Poll Results]

First of all, I apologize for the length of this poll, as it has been running since September 21st. As for the results, despite being up for that long, we only had 163 votes. Don’t forget, voting gets you a quick, easy 5 points! Anyway, it seems most peoples’ PSN purchases are determined by the price. Following behind that is a need for a quality demo, which is something I would agree with.

All of the Above comes in at third, which is a bit surprising, since there are probably very few games that meet all the other choices. 11 people also asked why we still had that option. I’m inclined to agree, so we’ll try to stop using it as an option. There should always be one factor that sticks out for you over every other one. That doesn’t mean other factors can’t help you make the decision, of course.

Anyway, there were a few that were also not interested in PSN purchases at all, with even fewer purchasing based on a favorite developer or publisher behind a title.

[tab:New Poll]

A lot of the poll ideas, I think at this point, are pretty outdated. Although this poll is about a month old, it is generally relevant over a longer period of time. Anyway, the idea comes from CHEETO, who will receive 200 points for his submission. I will also reward 100 points each to the people who submitted poll ideas between the last one and the current one since I was never able to get around to starting a new poll.

Anyway, Cheeto asks us, since the 360 received a Dashboard update last month, are you satisfied with the looks of the XMB, or do you think it’s up for a long-overdue redesign? You can either vote here, or at the lower end of the sidebar.

Poll Results and a Quick Update

[tab: Results]As you know, for the past few weeks, we’ve had the same poll running, since we usually change it when I do the Weekly Recap. Unfortunately, this past few weeks have been very hard on me to find the time to do the recaps and thus, the poll has not been updated. I hope to get back to doing the recaps soon, but I do have a couple polls in the next tab for you folks to partake in, one being the site poll and another about the Weekly Recap.

As for this tab, the focus is on the previous poll. We asked “What do you look for in Collector’s/Limited Editions?” and, finally, the results are in :P.

Unsurprisingly, someone added “All of the Above” and it got the most votes, despite most CE and LE games rarely coming with everything listed. Anyway, second highest was DLC content, which is always nice (but that DLC usually winds up on the store anyway). Statues and figurines came in third, which I find a little surprising, considering those are rarer and more collectable than the DLC.

What actually surprised me most was how low art books and soundtracks were voted, even getting less votes than those who weren’t interested in collector editions. Although, if you combine the two and include them with the “Art Books AND Soundtracks”, it would have far surpassed it.
[tab:New Poll]
First of all, the second poll is mainly for me, as I am asking whether or not you would like to see me do a recap of the past 5-6 weeks that I missed or start off on a clean slate.

Anyway, since I don’t award myself points for poll ideas, I’ll grab one from our Poll Ideas thread in the forums. I used Cheeto‘s idea because it was one I don’t think we’ve used before. I will get to others in the future, but for the poll idea being used, he will get an extra 200 points!

He asks what people’s main reason for buying PSN games is. Since there might be more than these reasons, I left the option to add your own answers.

The ‘Kind of’ Weekly Recap (July 24th-August 13th)

[tab:Recap]

Been busy again, but I have been around doing stuff for the Community. With that said, this was one of the busiest periods for us as far as giveaways goes, as you will see in the Community News tab. Currently, we have two giveaways happening with another one starting tomorrow. You can quickly access them by clicking on contest banners between post and at the top of articles.

We’ve had a number of reviews for you to check out as well, with a few of them happening in conjunction with a giveaway. Thanks goes out to all those PR people for providing us with content! It is much appreciated! I guess Oly gets some credit, too, but we all know people will only associate with Oly because it gets them closer to me :P. I kid.

With that said, EdEN and Cheeto need to settle down with the posting. Especially EdEN and his tyrannical posts about how a 3DS price drop is throwing the gauntlet against the Vita, and how it’s a better system than the Vita, blah blah blah. I don’t know how he got a staff position. Heck, he still hasn’t changed his name to his first name to continue on with site tradition :P. At least Eddie has been putting him in his place. Too bad EdEN doesn’t stay there for even 5 minutes before he starts again.

Anyway, be sure to check out the rest! Quite a few articles to go through in case you missed anything!

[tab:Community News & Game Nights]

It’s been a really busy past three weeks. One of the biggest things is definitely the giveaways, which you can read about in the section below. As far as Community news itself goes, Tosh has unveiled the new and improved giveaway/lottery system. It not only makes it easier for us to track entries, but also makes it easier for you to enter the contest as well.

Yesterday, Tosh also gave me more permissions for running the forums, so I took the liberty of beginning the process of improving the forums. For the most part, the forums are now categorized satisfactorily, but we’re still in the process of moving old topics to their new locations.

And, as always, we had our BlogCasts. Now available are Episode 11, Episode 12, and Episode 13. Enjoy!

Oh, and I almost forgot, EdEN has joined our team. Congratulations!

Alright, giveaways! First of all, we had a winner for the Tekken blu-ray.

The day before the winner of that was announced, we started a giveaway for PSN imports for Yakiniku Bugyou and Rapid Angel, where, later, everyone who entered had won. In fact, you can ask Oly if there are any extra codes left since the number of entries was less than the number of available codes…

Anyway, Eddie did a short giveaway for a Resistance 3 beta code, here you can see who won here.

We still had a couple other PSN giveaways, including Fast Draw Showdown and LIMBO. Winners can be seen here and here respectively.

Of course, it didn’t end there. Currently, we have 2 more giveaways going on, including the PSN title Dead Block and a piece of hardware that makes a wired connection through your house’s electrical circuit, the HP200AV.

We’re still not done yet, though. In fact, we had to make a couple more “lottery” accounts to allow for more giveaways, with the third account being used for a giveaway you will see go live tomorrow, so stick around! There is a lot of free stuff you can win! Also, Tosh’s E3 swag giveaway has ended, but items will be shipped soon!

Since the last recap, we had to delay the GT5 tournament to July 31st, at which point, only Dean and Pedro showed up. Although it was just us three, we still had a bit of fun! We just didn’t run it as intended and basically just turned it into a game night, but that’s okay. Here’s hoping we can do it again some other time.

Pretty interesting results, really. Almost half of the people who voted said that a deep, engaging story is most important for future titles, where, despite being 10 votes behind, innovative gameplay took second. Sequels and prequels got a few votes, but tried and true formulas and controversial subject matter both struck out with one vote.

[tab:New Poll]

This new poll idea comes from mowmow, who will receive 200 points for the idea. With that said, the poll asks what interests you most in a collector’s edition of a game. I believe we’ve had one of these in the past, but I suppose it can’t hurt to run a new one.
