Spike TV today announced it nominees for its annual Video Game Awards show dubbed “VGA TEN” this year, celebrating it’s 10th year. Oly and I were honored to cover the event for you last year, and this year we are doing it again! The highly anticipated event is expected to draw a crowd of gaming fans from all over.
This year’s show will be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, who’s recent appearance in last summer’s record breaking movie, “Marvel’s The Avengers” as Nick Fury is nothing short of awesome! He previously hosted the VGAs 3 times in 2005-2007.
“I’m thrilled to once again preside over the biggest night of gaming,” said Jackson. “And to all the gamers out there – you better circle the date right now and not make any plans that night – you don’t want to be that one guy among your friends who misses this show.”
This year’s confirmed musical talent will be Grammy award winning artists Linkin Park, performing “Castle of Glass” as featured in “Medal of Honor: Warfighter”, as well as a performance by Tenacious D.
Leading “VGA TEN,” with seven nominations each are “Borderlands 2″ and “Journey” Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed III,” is not far behind with six nominations while Bethesda Softworks’ “Dishonored,” EA’s “Mass Effect 3,” and Telltale Games’ “The Walking Dead: The Game” all have five nominations each.
Below are several of the nominees and categories for Spike TV’s “VGA TEN.” For a full list, please go to VGA.spike.com.
This interactive trailer blends a gameplay trailer with a ‘choose your own adventure’ experience. You will be able to select your path, weapons and assassination styles as you guide Connor through an assassination mission set in the midst of the Battle of Bunker Hill.
I’ve played through it twice, and feel it is one of the coolest trailer experiences I’ve had. What do you think? Sound off below.
The PS3-exclusive story arc for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III has been shown in the above trailer. It takes place over 4 missions, and Connor has been tasked by George Washington himself to expose Benedict Arnold and his plan to defect to the British and overthrow West Point. As far as the reasoning for using the story behind Benedict Arnold for these exclusive missions? When the Official Blog asked about that, Matt Turner, one of ACIII’s scriptwriter, had this to say:
Benedict Arnold is a name that transcended the Revolution and became a synonym for the word ‘traitor’. Given some of the themes in the main story thread, it flowed really well with some of the later beats… but I won’t be specific as they are spoilers! It was also a great opportunity for us to tell a story that people know but don’t really know, you know?

Here’s a new trailer showcasing Conner’s weapons for Assassin’s Creed 3.
“As Connor, you’ll unleash your predatory instincts to stalk your enemies and devastate them with all new weapons including tomahawks, rope darts, firearms, bow and arrows, battle axes and more. In this Assassin’s Creed III Weapons Trailer, watch as the newest master Assassin destroys his opponents using any means necessary – and keep an eye out for his hidden blade as a whole new combat system delivers more intense, gut-wrenching battles than ever before.”
