BD-Live Arriving with Firmware 2.20 Soon

March 20th, 2008, 11 Comments

Well this doesn’t happen to often. We get details of a firmware update before it arrives, lol. But this is how it should be every time. Usually it’s released late one night and the gaming forums try to figure out the changes all night.

Check out the list below for all the details. It should arrive in the next few days according to Sony.

*BD-Live functionality

* The ability to copy PS3 Music and Photo playlists to a PSP system. We introduced the ability to create Music and Photo playlists on the PS3 in firmware update v2.0. Now you can easily export your playlists to your PSP.

* You can now play DivX and WMV format files that are over 2 GB.

* Resume Play - begin playing a DVD or BD disc from the point where you previously stopped it, even if you eject the disc and insert a different movie or game.

* Use your PSP as a remote control to play back your music files on your PS3 without turning on your TV.

* The Internet browser now displays some web pages faster. In addition [Save Target] has been added as an option under file. This option lets you save a file that is linked to a web page to your PS3 hard drive or storage media.

In case you forgot what BD-Live is, here is a reminder.

New Blu-ray movies for the week 3.17.08

March 17th, 2008, 1 Comment

This week we only have two movies. What would you do if you where the last human on earth because of a virus that wiped out or mutated everyone else and was against you? Study this film in case this ever happens. Then we have the flip side. A family friendly movie, which is about a princess thrown into the real world. It’s a spoof on all the Princess / Happily Ever After Disney movies.

Overall a slow week. But almost 40 blu-ray movies are currently slated for April according to Blu-ray’s website.

I Am Legend Enchanted

Enchanted - Disney / Buena Vista
I Am Legend - Warner Bros.

Blu-Ray St. Valentine’s Massacre

February 15th, 2008, 12 Comments

UPDATE: Toshiba is reportedly abandoning HD-DVD. Source
EDIT: Toshiba hasn’t made an official announcement yet.

This week has been nothing short of a massacre:

  • NetFlix announced a phase out of HD-DVD
  • Best Buy, one of the largest retailers in the U.S, announced that it will strongly push Blu-Ray over HD-DVD
  • Many smaller publishers, (including even pornography publishers such as Digital Playgrounds) have announced plans to support Blu-Ray and drop HD-DVD
  • As if that wasn’t enough, Wal-Mart, the largest retailer of movies in the U.S, announced that it will also drop HD-DVD in June.
  • Finally, Toshiba is officially admitting defeat and abandoning the format
