COD Black Ops Xbox Live Error
Posted by Trev in Call of Duty: Black Ops on January 26th, 2011
Way to ruin the party Treyarch! A bit of an error here shown from a screenshot revealing that no Xbox LIVE Party Chat is available, a bit obvious considering its on the PS3? Not sure whether this means the same net code is used for patches (which would go some way to describing its poor online state) but it has since been removed via a hotfix. Can’t deny that it’s a tad amusing.
Infinity Ward Security Meeting on PS3 Hacking

Infinity Ward just finished a security meeting that entails the hacks displayed on the PS3 version of games for both hacked and non-hacked consoles. Here is what FourZeroTwo had to say:
I just left a security meeting with the coders here at Infinity Ward where we discussed a lot of solutions. I feel good about the meeting, but of course I can’t go into detail on the possible solutions we discussed as we don’t want to give out any information that could potentially hinder the security any further.
Once I have more information, I will post it here.
The key factor I want you to know is, that while any update takes time, we are looking to make the process as quick as possible and nothing is being left unattended.
Our main focus right now is on:
1) Preventing hackers from affecting legitimate players.
2) Addressing users who have already been affected.
He also stated that some of the problems need to be reported to Sony as well, so if you see someone hacking their way to victory, be sure to report them to Sony using this link.
Activision May Shut Down Black Ops Servers Due to PS3 Jailbreak Cheats [UPDATE]
Posted by Eddie in Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on January 19th, 2011
Well it looks like the worst possible scenario has reared its ugly head. Rampant cheating has been confirmed in both Blacks Ops and Modern Warfare 2 by the devs due to recent PS3 security issues. An Activision rep has been quoted as saying that server closure is a “viable” solution.
One can only worry about the extirpation of future multiplayer games. Will Killzone 3 or Uncharted 3 be dilapidated with cheaters? Will Sony usher in a strong ban hammer? This is evidence that homebrew is a pandora’s box. Especially when cheats are established before any anecdotal evidence of any positive homebrew software.
UPDATE Per JD_2020′s Twitter Account:
PS3 Servers comments were taken out of context. @Treyarch’s committed to supporting the PS3 community with some great updates on the way.
