A Double XP weekend kicks off for both Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops at 10am PST on Friday, October 28 and will run until Tuesday November 1st at 10am PST!
You’ll also unlock a Prestige Token in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for every Call of Duty you’ve prestiged in since Modern Warfare. This includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops. No word if it’s per prestige, or just one per game, however the latter is what it sounds like.
A Tweet from Infinity Ward just revealed some good news for those of you still wanting to play Modern Warfare 2:
“The latest Modern Warfare 2 patch, to address hacking, will release on Playstation 3 worldwide on March 8th.”
My son played this last weekend and said that every game he was in was hacked. Someone actually made him level 70 without him doing anything or asking for it to be done. The guy somehow made everyone gain enough points to max out. He called me in to see it, and as he joined the next game, it happened again. People were flying all over, and one person was shooting cars from a gun. Yes, cars!
Infinity Ward just finished a security meeting that entails the hacks displayed on the PS3 version of games for both hacked and non-hacked consoles. Here is what FourZeroTwo had to say:
I just left a security meeting with the coders here at Infinity Ward where we discussed a lot of solutions. I feel good about the meeting, but of course I can’t go into detail on the possible solutions we discussed as we don’t want to give out any information that could potentially hinder the security any further.
Once I have more information, I will post it here.
The key factor I want you to know is, that while any update takes time, we are looking to make the process as quick as possible and nothing is being left unattended.
Our main focus right now is on:
1) Preventing hackers from affecting legitimate players.
2) Addressing users who have already been affected.
He also stated that some of the problems need to be reported to Sony as well, so if you see someone hacking their way to victory, be sure to report them to Sony using this link.
Well it looks like the worst possible scenario has reared its ugly head. Rampant cheating has been confirmed in both Blacks Ops and Modern Warfare 2 by the devs due to recent PS3 security issues. An Activision rep has been quoted as saying that server closure is a “viable” solution.
One can only worry about the extirpation of future multiplayer games. Will Killzone 3 or Uncharted 3 be dilapidated with cheaters? Will Sony usher in a strong ban hammer? This is evidence that homebrew is a pandora’s box. Especially when cheats are established before any anecdotal evidence of any positive homebrew software.

PS3 Servers comments were taken out of context. @Treyarch’s committed to supporting the PS3 community with some great updates on the way.
