FFXIII conquers UK Charts, PS3 version outsells 360 release

http://www.digitaltrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/final_fantasy_xiii.jpg
Final Fantasy XIII has muscled its way to the top of the UK All Format Charts this past week, with the PlayStation 3 version of the critically acclaimed RPG outselling its 360 counterpart.
Sony’s black box accounted for 54 percent of overall sales for the Square Enix title, while the 360 nabbed 46 percent. One things for sure, punters can’t get enough of the venerable Japanese franchise, and we imagine Square must be patting themselves on the back right now.

Final Fantasy XIII released last Tuesday and has shipped five million copies worldwide.

Top ten this past week:

1 – Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix, Square Enix)
2 – Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA DICE, EA)
3 – Just Dance (Ubisoft, Ubisoft)
4 – Heavy Rain (Quantic Dream, SCE)
5 – Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo, Nintendo)
6 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Infinity Ward, Activision-Blizzard)
7 – Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (Sumo Digital, Sega)
8 – Aliens vs Predator (Rebellion, Sega)
9 – Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Nintendo)
10 – New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, Nintendo)

Final Fantasy XIII Ships 5 million Copies

Square Enix sent out a press release last night that announced that Final Fantasy XIII has shipped 5 million units worldwide. Three million units were shipped in North America and Europe, with closer to 2 million copies in Japan. Overall, the Final Fantasy series has shipped over 96 million units. Bear in mind, it doesn’t mean that 5 million copies has sold, just that they have shipped to stores. I also remember reading somewhere earlier in the week that the copies sold in Japan have put the game in the top 5 of best selling games in Japan for all time. There has also been no mention of PS3 vs XBOX 360 copies, but, due to the limitations on the XBOX 360 the PS3 will most likely be way ahead in sales.

March Madness! God of War III vs Final Fantasy XIII

Who could have predicted that two of the biggest games of 2010 would release literally days apart? God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII are both highly anticipated games but which will make or break the month of March?

Final Fantasy XIII will release a week ahead of God of War in North American markets on both the PS3 and 360. Square Enix’s flagship title is 4 years in the making and is receiving mixed reviews from around the net. From Edge’s, and Team Xbox’s 5/10 to OPM & OXM’s 9/10.  Will it’s muli-paltform release give it the edge over God of War?

While few reviews have surfaced for GOW III, due to embargo, that will change soon. Unlike Final Fantasy, the God of War sereis made it’s debut on the PS2 but quickly developed a devoted following. GOW III is shaping up to be the best looking game for the PS3 with crazy action. FFXIII will average about 30+ hours of gameplay without taking part in the available side missions. GOW III will offer a third of that.

I’m going out on the limb and offer my predictions that FFXIII will be the top selling game to hit the PS3 in March.

Final Fantasy XIII Shines on PS3

Since the PS3 first launched, some 3rd party devs couldn’t find the time to polish the PS3 version of their multi-platform games. This is still going on today. Sega’s Bayonetta is a latest example. It wasn’t a total mess on PS3 but it was the obvious inferior version when compared  to it’s 360 counterpart. The PS3 version had to ‘improved’ by Sony themselves and not Sega.
We’re just days away from the launch of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII in the US and EU and it’s come to everyone’s attention that the PS3 version is finally the superior version for a change.  This should come as no surprise since the game was developed initially with the PS3 in mind. So, exactly what makes it better you ask?
