A little earlier today, Square-Enix issued a brilliant Youtube video (using a game engine similar to the one for Final Fantasy VI) that recaps in 8 minutes the story of both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2, just in time for Lightning Returns, a game that will be out in less than two weeks.

I had the chance to download and play the (short) Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII demo that was released on PSN yesterday. Here are my impressions on the demo of the game that will end the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy.
One of the first thing that I noticed is that the game name is not Final Fantasy XIII-3, which would have been expected to follow the previous games name structure. The game is called Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the main heroine of the FFXIII trilogy, and lets you know that she will be the only playable character.
The demo shows a segment that seemed relatively advanced in the story, even for me who has completed both FFXIII and FFXIII-2, so I did find that the story was a little confusing: Snow (Lightning’s long friend) is now an enemy and the demo’s opening cutscene starts with those two having a fight to the death.
We FINALLY got information regarding the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Release on the official Playstation Blog from Sakura Minamida, Senior Product Manager of Square Enix.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will be available on March 18, 2014 (March 21 in EU), and will be released on PS3 Retail disc, PS Vita cartridges or on the PSN.
The PS3 version will feature both Final Fantasy X HD and Final Fantasy X-2 HD on the same disc, while the PS Vita will receive only Final Fantasy X HD on a cartridge and will include a code voucher to download X-2 HD from the PSN. I would have preferred to have X-2 on a separate cartridge, because as you all know, Vita memory card size is relatively limited, and I’m pretty sure that game will be a few GB.
The price will be $39.99 for the PS3 version, and the Vita version will be sold separately for another $39.99. That means that while those games will feature Cross-Save between the PS3 and Vita, they will not be Cross-Buy.
There is also a new “Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Collector’s Edition” available only from Square Enix Store, which can be purchased here. Check the image below to have an idea of what this special edition contains:
This is one of the releases I’ve been looking forward to for a while, but with both not being Cross-Buy, I might end up picking only the Vita version.
Would you have preferred to have both games when purchasing the PS3 version? What are your thoughts about those announcements?
EDIT: Expired !
Just in case you missed this news, Square-Enix is having a sale going on the PSN for the 25th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise. This sale is only up for two weeks, so it’ll be over before you know it if you don’t act fast!
I noticed that this deal is not featured on the PS Store directly: you’ll probably have to search for the games specifically in order to buy them!
Here is the complete list of discounted games:
