Journey, thatgamecompany’s most recent and largest project to date, represents three years of intense collaboration and growth for the small studio. As such, in conjunction with Santa Monica Studio, they have decided to release a retail version of their latest game: the Journey Collector’s Edition. It will be available at retail outlets across North America for just $29.99 on August 28.
But wait, there is more!

If you frequent the Official Playstation Blog like I do, you may have stumbled across a recent post announcing the winners of the Flower Power: Art Contest. Fans of the PSN exclusive, Flower, got to work on their masterpieces and submitted them to Santa Monica Studios. 5 winners were chosen and their pieces posted. Here is my favorite:
Each winner will receive a $20 PSN Gift Card. They are well deserved because each piece is stunning. See the rest here.
Flower has been reduced from £6.29 to £2.39 on the Playstation Store today, that’s almost a 70% discount! It’s also similarly reduced across Europe but mysteriously, is not in the US. If you haven’t picked up Flower already, it would be pretty rude not to now at such a cheap price. The deal is for one week only and expires on the 18th February.
Flower won the Best Independent Game at the Spike Video Game Awards 2009. It’s well deserved too. If you still haven’t played Flower, your missing out. I’d call it more of an experience than a game. But regardless it’s a must play. Here are my impressions on Flower. I wonder what thatgamecompany will come up with next!
I caved and bought Flower, and I’m glad I did actually. The SIXAXIS implementation in the game is very well done, very natural and easy to jump right in. You only have one button to worry about (any button will do), and that just makes the wind faster.
There is no risk of failure either, so anyone can play this game. There are some tense moments though. Plenty of trophies in Flower, most of them are very easy to achieve. The “Pure” trophy is a tuff one, I’m still working on it.
The graphics, sound fx, and music in the game are great. The grass effects are the best I’ve seen. It’s fun to just fly high in the sky and look at the environment below. Each level is unique and fun to explore. The last level is great too, I wish it ended a little different. But it still has a good ending. I don’t want to say to much about the levels to keep this spoiler free for you. But I can see myself going back to play this off and on.
There are six levels total, 7 if you include the credits. BTW, interactive credits should be the standard in all games, so fun I remember that even Golden Axe in the Sega Genesis days had interactive credits, lol …. anyway.
Screen shots and trailers don’t do this game justice. You must experience it first hand. Is it worth $9.99? Yes it is. I don’t regret buying it at all. I noticed several people on my buddy list playing it as well. I’d call this game more of a artful, relaxing, zen experience than an “game”. It’s another great unique game to have in the PSN store.
