[Review] Persona 2 – Innocent Sin (PSP)

The story takes place in Sumaru City, Japan, population 1,280,000. Its protagonist attends Seven Sisters High School (“Sevens” for short), whose emblem is considered a status symbol even amongst students from other schools.

Soon, though, a rumor that Sevens emblem was actually cursed, and that wearing it would disfigure one’s face, had spread around the city. Even worse, the rumor came true… And it was only the beginning of a string of rumors becoming reality, one after another…

Before long, the protagonist discover the power to summon another side of them called “Personas”, which they use to investigate the strange incidents around the city, all while facing their own personal demons as well.

Puzzle Dimension Review

Wait, another puzzle game? Seriously? It’s not that I hate puzzle games as I actually love them but ANOTHER one is not what the doctor ordered for my entertai… oh, wait, Chiptune music as the foundation (+MIDI extra bells and whistling whistles that whistle) to a great soundtrack for the game ( where can we get it? Ah, thanks! Be sure to pay at least $5 (or MORE)for this great soundtrack!), which adds a great atmosphere all around? Old school polished pixels (remember 3D Dot Game Heroes?) that change into very good looking HD textures when approached? Challenging but fun levels that actually make you think in order to solve them? Hey everyone, a new puzzle game got released on PSN and it’s awesome!

Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday Hands On

Game Life has a preview of Parasite Eve 3 for the PSP. I don’t own Sony’s portable because I’m wishing they’ll eventually allow us to play PSP games on our PS3 (since we can already do so with minis) but I really like the Parasite Eve series and there IS hope of at least getting a PSN port of the game in the future.

Prototype – dodge flying cars in a chopper.

Prototype goes head to head with inFamous this summer with the two games being released only 2 weeks apart.

Here’s a walkthrough of how an early mission in the game plays out;

Seems like this game needs you to be incognito much more so than in inFamous, thanks to Alex’s shape shifting ability. I’m also liking the fact that you’re not the only one capable of throwing cars at helicopters.

Prototype is available June 9th.

BBC Previews PlayTV

PlayTV is basically a DVR (digital video recorder), you can record one show while watching another. Set up shows to record for you. Even watch it on the go with your PSP via remote play.

I’m very jealous that North America won’t be getting this. Any of you guys in Europe going to get this?

PixelJunk Monsters Demo

pixeljunk_monsters.jpg

Last night I downloaded the PixelJunk Monster Demo from the Japanese store. It’s actually an english-language game! Supposedly it’ll be available tomorrow in the North American store as well.

The game is like the web-browser game Desktop Tower Defense, but with a few small changes.

You can’t build a tower just anywhere. You have to convert a tree into a tower. This severely limits the game in that you no longer control the path the baddies must take. But I personally didn’t really care about this restriction.

To do anything, you actually have to move your character to do it. To build a tower, you need to move your little guy over to a tree to convert it. That’s not too bad. But when your towers kill off the baddies, you have to collect the gold yourself. That’s a real pain in the butt!

One other change is that you can upgrade towers by paying for it, like the original, or you can also make your character dance in front of the tower for a bit, which comes in handy when you have no moola.

The demo gives a pretty good indication of what the game is like, giving you a tutorial level plus a full level to play around in. It does have two-player co-op, which I’ll try with a friend eventually. If that’s good, I might still end up buying it. If not, then nope.
