Major Gran Turismo 5 Update

Seems like Polyphony has been hard at work on GT5′s next update. Last night they deployed an update which adds new features and enhancements.

  • First, there is now a way to do “remote racing between friends” which lets you level.
  • Second, there is now support for “remote racing from the web browser“.
  • Third, there is now a way to “use the tracks you build through Course Maker online“.
  • Fourth, you can now”“rent/share cars amongst friends”“.
  • Five, you will now have the option for “multimonitor display compatibility“.
  • More info about these after the jump:

Attention: Gran Turismo 5 Tournament Postponed

    Tournament Update

The GT5 tournament has been delayed until further notice, since my PS3 decided to YLOD today. With that said, I will get it repaired as soon as possible (by way of Gophermods’ re-balling service, whenever that becomes available). Along with that delay, I decided that the tournament is open for more entrants until further notice. If you’re interested in participating (be sure to read the rules in the tab), feel free to sign up by replying below.

The rules and everything are the same, as well as the prizes. If we can get Sony to get us a download code for a rare car to use as a prize car, we’ll throw that in as well (and that is being worked on). Sorry folks. I will also PM those of you who are currently signed up to participate.

Hopefully we can get a few more entrants and have two rounds of racing, since a few of you might have gotten the game as a gift. I will post the new date when I know for sure when it will be.

    Tournament Rules and Information

    Prizes

    (subject to change)

    1. 500 Points plus the ’09 Corvette ZR1
    2. 400 Points
    3. 300 Points
    4. 200 Points
    5. 100 Points

Tournament will also have a lot of restrictions in the interest of fairness. For starters, the image above is an exact representation of the car you guys will be racing. So, we will start with the car requirements:

    • 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR (30,000 Credits at Mitsubishi dealership)
      • Horsepower is limited to 355
      • Weight is limited to 1220kg
      • Tires limited to Sports Soft
      • Suspension and drivetrain upgrades are open

Car was chosen because it’s relatively inexpensive. Suspension/transmission/etc are open because I can’t track those anyway. Given that fact, I would recommend getting a racing suspension and transmission, as others will likely do the same.

There will be a total of 5 races. In the event participation exceeds the 10 entrants mark, we will have to set up two different groups and basically have a semi-final and a final (which will result in 10 races total). I don’t really expect to see more than 20 entrants, but if it happens, it happens and I will make adjustments accordingly.

As for advancement, that will have to be determined after we have a confirmed driver list. but here is how point standings will go for each place:

    1. 100
    2. 90
    3. 80
    4. 70
    5. 60
    6. 50
    7. 40
    8. 30
    9. 20
    10. 10

After each race, these race points will be applied to the drivers. The driver with the highest accumulation of points will either advance to the next round, or win the tournament (depending on number of racers). Here are the tracks we will be using (at 5 laps a piece):

    Finals

    • Fuji Speedway F
    • Trial Mountain
    • Laguna Seca
    • Cape Ring Peripherary
    • Circuit de la Sarthe 2009 (with weather and time change)

In the event we need more than one round, the first round will be these following tracks (with 5 laps each):

    If Needed

    • Deep Forest Raceway
    • Cote d’ Azur
    • Special Stage Route 5
    • Suzuka Circuit
    • Autumn Ring

Now, for some other special rules. First, all assists will be turned off. Grip reduction will be set to realistic. Penalties will be set to strong. After the first initial races, race grids will be set to the slowest person first.

I will not be participating in the race itself, but I am hosting it, and will spectate the race(s), as well as track winners myself and everything. In order to do this, you need to add me to PSN. My PSN ID is JimmyMagnum. In order for me to know who you are, and for you to be entered into the tournament, just send me a friend request and tell me your member name on this site, as well as leave a reply here with your PSN ID, too.

If we do need more than one round, I will let you guys know via PSN Message when your round is ready to begin so you can start joining in.

GT5 v1.05 Update – Lots of New Stuff!

    Quick Updates
So this was released a couple days ago, but since I haven’t had time to pop on GT5, I missed the initial launch of it, but man, they added quite a bit of new stuff to the game. The next tab will have more information, but here are some of the more important highlights:

    • Seasonal Events: Seasonal Events have been added to the GT ModeGT Life screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team. In these events, all participants are under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. Compete on the leader boards with players around the world, in Time Trials and Drift Trials!
    • Online Race Rewards and Experience: When you complete a race in the Open Lobby or My Lounge, you will now gain rewards and experience points. Even if you are focused more on playing online, you’ll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in GT Life.
    • Improved Rewards: The rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec in GT Mode-GT Life have been increased for a limited time only. (This applies until the end of January 2011.) This is a great chance for those who were previously having difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to a lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.
    • Save Data Backup: You can now copy and restore your save data. For details, please refer to the in-game Manual.
    • Integration with the Website: The main features within GT Mode-Community can now also be accessed through the “gran-turismo.com” official website.

Also of note, I noticed you can now also restart races immediately after you’ve won them, so for you credit grinders, it’s now easier to keep redoing a race to build up your credits. This was something not included in the patch details.

    Patch Details
A new update has been released for Gran Turismo 5.
The main contents of the update are as follows:

    ・Seasonal Events
[Seasonal Events] have been added to the upper left side of the [GT Mode] – [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team.

    ・Online Dealership
An [Online Dealership] has been added to the left center of the [GT Mode]-[GT Life] screen. In here you will find popular and rare used cars.

You might just come across that one car you’ve always been looking for, that you haven’t been able to find in the [Used Car Dealer]

    ・Online Race Rewards and Experience
When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience points.
Therefore if you are focused more on playing online, you’ll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life].

・Driving Distance and Number of Wins in Online Races
The driving distance and the number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge] will now affect your stats in [Profile] and the [Garage].

    ・Save Data Backup

    [Important Note:]
    * We have made improvements to the [Log] within [GT Mode]- [Community] section, in order to make its operation more stable. Please note that the information that was here before the update has been reset.

    * Some contents of the update will not be applied unless you sign in to the PlayStation®Network when you play the game.

To check the version of your software, press the “Manual” button at the bottom of the main menu screen. The version number will be located on the upper left of the index page in this manual.

GT5 Photo Contest – Open for Voting!

    General Information

Alright, so today was the deadline to get all photo contest entries in. If you happened to miss it, I did extend it for a week to allow some more entries, but no one really capitalized on it.

With that said, there is already an automatic winner. Since j1mmy76‘s entry was the only entry for the category ‘Hangtime’, he automatically wins the 100 points. His entry is shown above. Congratulations  .

Now, there was also a multi-car entry, but I didn’t get any for that, so there will, of course, be no poll for that one. The other two categories, Action and Studio, do have some tough competition in store, and those are also where the polls will come in, which will be available to vote on in the tabs above. Good luck to the entrants!

    Polls will end this Monday.

    Studio Entries and Poll
Here are the folks who entered the contest for the Studio shots (in successive order; these will not, however, coincide with the pictures in the poll, since the one with the most votes gets put up top):

    Jay, kennygk, Ajescent, Kane112, oregondude

5 entries isn’t too bad I suppose! Vote for your favorites below (Clicking on the image will show you a larger version of it).

    Action Entries and Poll
As with the Studio shots, the Action shots also only got 5 entries. Some of the entrants are also different, but be sure to vote for your favorites as well. Here’s the list, in successive order, of these entrants:

    Shtoner, kennygk, Kane112, j1mmy76, Jay
