With only 260mb of download size, the title is pretty impressive. Graphics are very polished and the learning curve is pratically null. I really did not like the in-game music, but there’s a patch coming up that will allow you to use your own music, as well as youtube uploading for impressing your friends with your wheelie skills.
One thing that I liked the most is that it automatically compares your score with your friends who also have the game. Jay, I’m coming for you, I kicked your butt in the first levels, but after that I was pwned…
Multiplayer is split screen only, and I did not test this feature. I suppose it’s lots of funs, but a network multiplayer or even ghost support will come in handy.
Looks like IGN was the first to review Joe Danger for the PS3. Joe Danger was developed by Hello Games, a group of 4, and, according to IGN, the game is very, very polished. What did they wind up giving the game? A 9.5/10. Here’s their opening for their review, which gives you a basic idea of what to expect:
Imagine if Excitebike and Trials HD got together and totally did it. Their baby would be Joe Danger. It’s a stunt motorcycle game that combines the physics play of Trials with the cartoon presentation and level editor of Excitebike.
They even mention that the game feels a lot like Nintendo developed it. “…it will constantly surprise and delight you, in the way the best first-party Nintendo games do.” With the score they gave them, and the overwhelmingly positive remarks other people have made about the game since it’s original announcement, this might be the Indie Game of the Year on the PS3 (or, at the very least, a contender). I will most likely be downloading this title when it goes on sale next week, and when I do that, expect a review from us ;).
This is one of those PSN games I had my eye on for a while. I wonder if Eddie got his hands on it when they showed it off at PAX earlier this year? Anyway, as I said in a post from a while back, it’s kind of like LBP and MNR in a way that you can create your own stunt tracks in the game, and play with friends on these tracks, with different routes and the like. What’s really cool is that you can edit your track at any time:
Creating levels in Joe Danger is as fast and fun as playing the game itself. In fact, you never leave the game! As you ride through your level, press Edit at any time to freeze the world and play about with it however you want. You can drop a ramp then launch Joe over it, or place a Shark Tank just before he lands.
You can also create challenges for others to try to top, or race against them in tracks created by you. Like LBP and MNR, all the tracks in game are made using the game’s creation tools. In single player, the game includes 11 tours of up to 10 races each, so there’s a lot of stuff you can draw ideas from for your own tracks. You might be able to play head-to-head online and on split-screen (considering there were four people on a track in the video, I would assume that means 4 player split screen, but a screenshot does show split screen for two), but the biggest draw, according to the developers, is trying to get high scores, which, in itself, adds to the replay value for those who are more competitive.
The game looks promising and might wind up being the Indie game to get this year (and it’s exclusive to the PS3). It will hit the US PSN next Tuesday, and they are trying to get a EU release as close as possible to that (they will make that announcement on the EU blog when it’s ready). It will be on sale for $14.99, but given the content, it might be worth it!
Be sure to check out some of the developer’s other videos after the jump. They show off a coin dash track, as well as a quick one that they made and tested out, with some hilarious traps and the like (it gives you a good idea of the different things you can do).
[tab:News]The indie game, Joe Danger, has been confirmed to be coming exclusively to the PlayStation Network this spring. What is Joe Danger? Think Excite Bike and LittleBigPlanet had a love child. Basically, you go down the track perfomring all sorts of stunts, and collecting objects for points and everything, with the ability to create your own stunt tracks as well. Managing Director of Hello Games, the developers of the title (4 members strong), had this to say about working with Sony:
We’re giddy with anticipation to be coming to PS3, it’s frankly the most exciting day in Hello Games history so far. We’re a tiny team of four, trying to make a really big game, with some huge features like user generated content. We’re the developer, the publisher and marketing team for Joe Danger. At best we know how to do one of those, and even that’s arguable, it’s a rollercoaster ride.
To help with the funding, Hello Games has taken part in Sony’s PlayStation Network Publishing Fund:
The “Pub Fund” helps foster the development and distribution of new and exciting games from independent developers by offsetting development and publishing costs that have proven to be barriers for many smaller, independent studios.
The title has already had three nominations from the IGF (Independent Games Festival). Should be pretty cool when it comes out in a couple months or so.

ABOUT HELLO GAMES
Hello Games was founded by a band of four friends who had climbed their way to the top of the pile at great developers like Criterion, Sumo, Kuju, EA and Climax. They have decided to set forth on a brave journey of discovery and adventure to bring some new, funky coloured pixels to the world.
They have loved every minute of helping to create great games like Burnout, Geometry Wars Galaxies, Sega Superstars Tennis, MotoGP and Black – but it’s come time for them to forge their own path. They must unleash the charm and creativity that has been stopping them from sleeping at night. Joe Danger is their first title, a triple A game developed by the talented team of four.
