MGS4 Surprise Week / Metal Gear Online Updates & Free Bikinis
Posted by T0SH in Metal Gear Online, Metal Gear Solid 4 on June 16th, 2009
MGO has been updated to 1.33, it has a lot of bug fixes you can see the whole list here. It says “Damage for direct throws has been tuned.” Wonder if that means you can’t knock them out with one throw anymore with CQC-EX. Then the automatic CQC counter will only work if CQC’ed from the front. I prefer that actually, CQC-EX was to overpowered.
All this week Konami will have surprises for the one year anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. First surprise is free bikinis for those that have purchased the GENE expansion pack. Video of that in action below.
Another new surprise is a new stage, called the Icebound Inferno, which is also known as the “MGS4′s windy blizzard Shadow Moses stage.” Sounds like a great stage, I gotta try that. Then it seems like Snake will be selectable in more ways.

Wonder what other surprises Konami will have this week.

Kojima continues to tease us with photo of Big Boss

Click for higher rez photo (thanks JimmyMagnum)
The teaser site has a new countdown and Big Boss’s face showed up. While I was hoping for a Zone of Enders 3 game. I’m still excited for another Metal Gear title as long as Kojima is in charge.
He looks older than he did in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and is wearing a beret bearing a patch which reads “Militares Sans Frontieres” (Military Without Borders).
Raiden has also showed up on the teaser site. Very interesting. The countdown expires just as E3 beings. Can’t wait to see what Kojima has up his sleeves!

Maybe this game could take place after MGS3 and then cut to the future throughout the game controlling Raiden? Some think it could be a remake of the classic MGS games. There are a lot of theories going around, what’s yours?
Metal Gear Online Race Mission & Patriot Feature
Posted by T0SH in Metal Gear Online, Metal Gear Solid 4 on May 8th, 2009
These new updates are available to everyone, not just those who purchased SCENE. There will be a new game mode called Race Mission, which goes live on May 12th. Details are below:
This mode pits two teams against each other, with the Blue Team searching for and protecting the KEROTAN target, and the Red Team searching for and protecting the GA-KO target. Each time a team passes a check point with its target in hand, a new checkpoint will be generated. If a team drops its target and the target is not retrieved within a set period of time, the target’s position will be reset and the checkpoint will change.
Sounds fun to me, but it will depend how well your team helps protect the carrier of the KEROTAN/GA-KO. This mode will force teamwork that’s for sure, which is good. The other new feature is called the “Patriot” which is available to all players, starting on May 26th. I wonder what the recoil is like on the gun. I hope I’m lucky enough to get selected for a week.
This feature will select a few lucky players every week starting from the 26th, and give them exclusive access to a 5.56mm Hand Rifle with infinite ammunition and no reload. Players will have access to these unique “Patriot” features until the next ranking update. You’d better watch out when a “Patriot” joins your game!
I’m amazed the support Metal Gear Online is getting, they have added a lot of features since it’s release. Plus they have something in store for the one year anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 4. Mmm, wonder what it could be.
Just a reminder you can purchase the MGO Expansion packs with the PlayStation Network Wallet now.
