Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell collection is currently available on the EU PSN and will be coming our way shortly. Here is a look at 20 minutes of gameplay in 1080p to see just what they have done to the series in terms of graphics.
Back in February, I showed you the box art for the then-upcoming Splinter Cell trilogy. Many of you seemed anxious to get your hands on it; first-timers wanting to get a chance to play the games and catch up on the series, or those who wanted to revisit some good ol’ memories with Tom Clancy.
The game was set for release on March 22nd, 2011. It was very strange, though, as the date drew closer and closer, no trailers or promotion of any kind happened on neither the internet nor TV.
On the date of release, people from all over went to their local game stores to pick up their pre-order copy of the HD collection to not only be told that it wasn’t available, but also that it wasn’t in the stores’ computers or upcoming release pages. And if that wasn’t enough, there was nothing on the PlayStation Network about the individual releases. It was like an episode of the Twilight zone… only, less dramatic. And in color.
To make matters worse, it wasn’t until the NEXT day, March 23rd, that Ubisoft issued a press statement saying that the game had been delayed until June 21st of 2011. Not only is this annoying, because that’s the kind of thing you tell people at LEAST a day or two, if not a month before release. Worst of all about this press statement, is Ubisoft offered NO explanation of any kind as to what caused the delay; when questioned about the reason for this extended wait, Ubisoft refused to comment.
Today, Ubisoft’s PR Coordinator Alex Monney posted on the PlayStation Blog about the trilogy, carrying with him 3 screenshots from the HD revamp, and a short summary of the games and what the trilogy will consist of. (3D and HD-ness) But still, no explanation.
I know that it might not be considered a big deal that we weren’t given any kind of a reason, but I don’t like that kind of treatment when many of us had bought and paid for, in FULL, a game we expected 2 weeks ago and still haven’t been told, in the very least, WHY we had to wait an extra 3 months.
Back in December, we told you about the upcoming Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy coming to the PlayStation 3 (Along with the Tomb Raider collection, no less.) Now, we can officially show you what the box art is going to look like. Pretty cool, huh?
Like the God of War collection, this gathering of the first 3 Splinter Cell games (Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory) will have trophies (and one platinum per-game), will be remastered in HD, and feature Stereoscopic 3D; all compacted together in a nice little Blu-Ray disc with a sexy cover art!
The Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy won’t be the only collection coming out this year; we still have the ICO collection (Shadow of the Colossus and ICO) and the aforementioned Tomb Raider collection yet to be released!
The Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy is slated for release March 22nd and will run you $39.99.
Today the rumored Tomb Raider Trilogy and Splinter Cell Collection have both been confirmed.
Tomb Raider will include: Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary and Underworld with Legend and Anniversary getting the HD makeover.
Splinter Cell will include: The Original Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory.
And of course trophies will be included just like the rest of the collections.
