A big ‘oops’ happened over the weekend, with a bunch of folks receiving automated calls from GameStop letting people who placed orders know that ‘The Last Guardian’ has been cancelled. Don’t fret, though, as the game is still in development. GameStop just removed it from their list pending an official release date before opening the game back up for preorders. As for previously placed orders? Those are now invalid, so those people should get a refund. GameStop has since apologized.

SCEE confirmed that the the ICO/Shadow of Colossus Collection is to be delayed from its original release date of Spring 2011 as well as The Last Guardian which was originally set for Holiday/Winter 2011.
Fumito Ueda had this to say:
I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011.
However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.
All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality.
I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for “The Last Guardian” for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.
News regarding Team Ico’s The Last Guardian has been hard to find since last year’s Tokyo Game Show. Thankfully PSM3 has a big feature on the game in their newest magazine and it’s loaded with new details.
According to PSM3 TLG’s designer and director Fumito Ueda hopes to release TLG “on time” but he’s in no rush to finish the game. He did re-confirm a 2011 release but only for Japan at the moment. After spending sometime playing the first level of The Last Guardian PSM3 cited that the game looks “stunning” with a world “filled with vibrant colors”.
