For some odd reason, Metal Gear’s 25th Anniversary celebrations are still going on. Spike’s VGA 10 after party was actually the after party for the awards show coupled with MG 25th anniversary. Yes it’s strange as Konami already threw a party for them at PAX PRIME Seattle which I attended as well.
In any case, the event was filled with surprises. Oly and I met great people among the industry and got to party with the whole Konami crew. As expected, the awards show was long and once again over produced. Never the less, we still had a great time! Here are the pictures!

Spike TV today announced it nominees for its annual Video Game Awards show dubbed “VGA TEN” this year, celebrating it’s 10th year. Oly and I were honored to cover the event for you last year, and this year we are doing it again! The highly anticipated event is expected to draw a crowd of gaming fans from all over.
This year’s show will be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, who’s recent appearance in last summer’s record breaking movie, “Marvel’s The Avengers” as Nick Fury is nothing short of awesome! He previously hosted the VGAs 3 times in 2005-2007.
“I’m thrilled to once again preside over the biggest night of gaming,” said Jackson. “And to all the gamers out there – you better circle the date right now and not make any plans that night – you don’t want to be that one guy among your friends who misses this show.”
This year’s confirmed musical talent will be Grammy award winning artists Linkin Park, performing “Castle of Glass” as featured in “Medal of Honor: Warfighter”, as well as a performance by Tenacious D.
Leading “VGA TEN,” with seven nominations each are “Borderlands 2″ and “Journey” Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed III,” is not far behind with six nominations while Bethesda Softworks’ “Dishonored,” EA’s “Mass Effect 3,” and Telltale Games’ “The Walking Dead: The Game” all have five nominations each.
Below are several of the nominees and categories for Spike TV’s “VGA TEN.” For a full list, please go to VGA.spike.com.
For those of you who aren’t cool enough to follow racing and/or are fans of automotive culture, Polyphony digital hosts its Gran Turismo Awards ceremony at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association) convention. Think of it as E3 for car guys.
This year, the winner was David Eckert’s Ford Mach Forty, named so because of it resembling the Mach 1 Mustang and being powered by components normally reserved for the GT40. Overall, there were 5 categories, of which, this car was also the winner of the Best Hot Rod category. Other finalists include:
- Best European Import: 2013 Volkswagen Turbo Beetle (VWVortex.com 2013 Super Beetle Project)
- Best Truck or SUV: Antron Brown’s Family Dragster Toyota Sequoia
- Best Domestic Automobile: 2014 Ford Mustang GT RTR Spec 3
- Best Asian Import: 2013 Scion FR-S Evasive Motorsport
Note the official title of this event: Maxim and Rock The Vote Celebrate the launch of Assassin’s Creed 3. By the title you can just tell this is not dedicated towards who matters most, the fans that buy and support this series. As soon as I set foot in front of the venue, I knew that this event was more a “show” than a celebration. Just look at the red carpet photos and you can tell whoever organized this event wanted it to have some kind of hit summer movie, red carpet premiere vibe. Sure it had Movie and TV stars, but what does that have to do with Assassin’s Creed 3? I understand if it would have been the voice actors, however it was exactly the opposite. Most of the attendees were just your typical Hollywood club hoppers who were there for the free booze. I am all about complimentary drinks and open bar, however this was just ridiculous. The event was totally private and you had to be invited.
