The ‘Kind of’ Weekly Recap (July 24th-August 13th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on August 14th, 2011

Been busy again, but I have been around doing stuff for the Community. With that said, this was one of the busiest periods for us as far as giveaways goes, as you will see in the Community News tab. Currently, we have two giveaways happening with another one starting tomorrow. You can quickly access them by clicking on contest banners between post and at the top of articles.
We’ve had a number of reviews for you to check out as well, with a few of them happening in conjunction with a giveaway. Thanks goes out to all those PR people for providing us with content! It is much appreciated! I guess Oly gets some credit, too, but we all know people will only associate with Oly because it gets them closer to me
. I kid.
With that said, EdEN and Cheeto need to settle down with the posting. Especially EdEN and his tyrannical posts about how a 3DS price drop is throwing the gauntlet against the Vita, and how it’s a better system than the Vita, blah blah blah. I don’t know how he got a staff position. Heck, he still hasn’t changed his name to his first name to continue on with site tradition
. At least Eddie has been putting him in his place. Too bad EdEN doesn’t stay there for even 5 minutes before he starts again.
Anyway, be sure to check out the rest! Quite a few articles to go through in case you missed anything!

It’s been a really busy past three weeks. One of the biggest things is definitely the giveaways, which you can read about in the section below. As far as Community news itself goes, Tosh has unveiled the new and improved giveaway/lottery system. It not only makes it easier for us to track entries, but also makes it easier for you to enter the contest as well.
Yesterday, Tosh also gave me more permissions for running the forums, so I took the liberty of beginning the process of improving the forums. For the most part, the forums are now categorized satisfactorily, but we’re still in the process of moving old topics to their new locations.
And, as always, we had our BlogCasts. Now available are Episode 11, Episode 12, and Episode 13. Enjoy!
Oh, and I almost forgot, EdEN has joined our team. Congratulations!

Alright, giveaways! First of all, we had a winner for the Tekken blu-ray.
The day before the winner of that was announced, we started a giveaway for PSN imports for Yakiniku Bugyou and Rapid Angel, where, later, everyone who entered had won. In fact, you can ask Oly if there are any extra codes left since the number of entries was less than the number of available codes…
Anyway, Eddie did a short giveaway for a Resistance 3 beta code, here you can see who won here.
We still had a couple other PSN giveaways, including Fast Draw Showdown and LIMBO. Winners can be seen here and here respectively.
Of course, it didn’t end there. Currently, we have 2 more giveaways going on, including the PSN title Dead Block and a piece of hardware that makes a wired connection through your house’s electrical circuit, the HP200AV.
We’re still not done yet, though. In fact, we had to make a couple more “lottery” accounts to allow for more giveaways, with the third account being used for a giveaway you will see go live tomorrow, so stick around! There is a lot of free stuff you can win! Also, Tosh’s E3 swag giveaway has ended, but items will be shipped soon!

Since the last recap, we had to delay the GT5 tournament to July 31st, at which point, only Dean and Pedro showed up. Although it was just us three, we still had a bit of fun! We just didn’t run it as intended and basically just turned it into a game night, but that’s okay. Here’s hoping we can do it again some other time.

Pretty interesting results, really. Almost half of the people who voted said that a deep, engaging story is most important for future titles, where, despite being 10 votes behind, innovative gameplay took second. Sequels and prequels got a few votes, but tried and true formulas and controversial subject matter both struck out with one vote.
This new poll idea comes from mowmow, who will receive 200 points for the idea. With that said, the poll asks what interests you most in a collector’s edition of a game. I believe we’ve had one of these in the past, but I suppose it can’t hurt to run a new one.

The Weekly Recap (July 17th-23rd)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on July 24th, 2011

Despite Comic Con going on in San Diego right now, it’s been a relatively slow week. Pedro put up an editorial about innovation in gaming (and I put up a poll using that as a basis). Speaking of innovation (or lack thereof), a new Zombie game is in the works, this one by Grasshopper Manufacture.
We had a few trailers this week. One for Starhawk (which was shown at Comic Con), as well as a Penguin trailer for Batman: Arkham City. We also got a sneak peak at some multiplayer with a new Battlefield 3 trailer as well.
We also had a few reviews this week as well. Puzzle Dimension, inFamous 2, and Patapon 3. Be sure to read those and leave comments!
With that out of the way, we still have a lot going on, so be sure to read the other tabs for details on giveaways and double points. I definitely suggest taking advantage of the latter to help you with the former.

Nothing new this week community wise. We do, however, have double points active through the rest of July! With a good number of giveaways coming up, now is a good time to stock up on points!
And, as always, be sure to listen to our BlogCasts! You’ll get plenty of laughs! For our newest one, be sure to listen to episode 10.

The winner of the Alien Zombie Megadeath giveaway has been chosen (as well as the winners of the Red Johnson’s Chronicles giveaway, so congratulations to you guys!
We also have our ongoing E3 Swag giveaway, as well as a chance for you to win a blu-ray of the Tekken movie.
For major giveaways, we have also made it a lot easier for facebook users to enter them. To see what I mean, be sure to check it out here.

From the looks of it, you guys either spent a lot or didn’t spend anything at all when the PSN came back, as tied for the number one spot are “Nothing” and the 20-50 range. One person did have to file for bankruptcy, though. There are still a few things I have to buy myself, but I am a bit low on funds.
Since there wasn’t any valid poll ideas for this week, I decided to come up with one of my own. And I don’t get points for my brilliant ideas
. As usual, I like to base them off of something going on this week, so without further ado, this week’s poll is based off of Pedro’s article about innovation. The only thing is, I have a few things listed, and it’s up to you to see what you think is most important for future titles.
-
- Deep, Engaging Story
- Innovative Gameplay
- Expansion of Previous Storylines
- Graphical Prowess
- Controversial Subject Matter
- Tried and True Formulas
The Weekly Recap (July 10th-16th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on July 17th, 2011

It seems like every time I get around to writing articles, the week always seems to be busy. Until I do the recap, and realize how little activity there actually was. As far as counted articles go (which doesn’t include weekly posts like blu-ray releases, the podcasts, recaps, etc and posts about the site/community), we only had a total of 12 articles and 13 QuickNews.
What were some of this week’s highlights, though? Well, I expressed my love for War of the Monsters and how it would be a perfect PSN game. I also posted the heart breaking news of Netflix changing up its subscription plans. Eddie also posted an article about Sony supporting smaller developers (and, apparently, dedicated $20 million to PSN game development).
A new Sanits Row 3 trailer featuring the pre-order bonus pack was released, and, as expected, it was ridiculously over the top. We’ve also had trailers for Batman: Arkham City and Driver: San Francisco.
As far as reviews go, EdEN had posted his for Alien Zombie Megadeath and Back to the Future: Episode 4. I also posted a review, this time for an active HDMI cable. I was trying to get my inFamous 2 review up last week as well, but personal life came up. I do have most of it written already, though, so expect that sometime this week for sure.
As always, be sure to read all of the recap. Maybe you missed something this week that might have interested you?

Tosh has made it so anyone who participates in a BlogCast gets 200 points. If you want to earn points easily, that’s a chance for you to do so! It’s very casual, laid back, and conversational. Most of the time, we record on Wednesday night at 6PM, Pacific.
You can also earn 100 points for emailing us and 150 for leaving us a voicemail (@ PS3-888-BLOG – US number). We will read mail on air, as well as putting the audio from voicemails in there.
Be sure to listen to Episode 9 when you get a chance!

The Red Johnson’s Chronicles giveaway ends tonight, so be sure to get your last minute entries in for this excellent title. There will be three winners.
If point and click mystery games aren’t your thing, we also have a chance for you to win the far more frantic Alien Zombie Megadeath, which ends Thursday night. I’m not sure how many winners will be chosen here, though.

Earlier this week I had posted a reminder about our Gran Turismo 5 tournament, which is still scheduled for the 24th (one week from today). At this point in time, that is still the only game night we have planned unfortunately.
Of course, that’s not to say you can’t start one yourself! In fact, we have a site trophy you can get just for hosting your first one. The only thing you have to do is apply to be a writer and you can simply opt to just host game nights. You can also go into the Game Night Group and post there as well (I am going to try to find ways of promoting the Groups section so it gets more activity).

Not too many people voted this week, but from the results, most people think we’re a**holes because those people have jobs. There are others who are getting fat. More so than those engaging in sports, or even gaming. Only a select few are getting sexified. There is also one person from the southern hemisphere who is currently enjoying winter, my favorite time of year.
This new poll idea is by way of EdEN, who will get the 200 points for the suggestion. We’re asking how much money you’ve spent on the PlayStation Store since the PSN resumed service, in light of the post we had earlier in the week about how sales have been doing better since before the outage.
Since not everyone on the site uses the dollar, I included symbols for the pound and euro as well, and “etc” for any other denomination. Basically, it goes from the low-end amount to the higher end (so if you aren’t familiar with those forms of money, anything over $50 is usually one of the full games or if you got a full year of PS+).

The Weekly Recap – Another Compilation
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on July 10th, 2011

Alright, I am on the verge of giving up on these things! Just kidding. Again, another late one, and, again, I apologize. It took a littler longer for me to compile this time because the formatting of my archives changed for some reason, so it’s not a simple cut and paste.
It was an interesting past few weeks, with a large number of giveaways and reviews (and there are a whole lot more still in the works). I haven’t had too much time on here myself, as my unemployment ran out (and no, none of the staff here gets paid for their time and work; we’re just dedicated members), so I have been dedicating even more time to looking for work, and the Arizona heat isn’t helping much with comfort level, either, because it’s been in the 110s and we don’t have air conditioning (and with monsoon season going on right now, that heat is mixed in with high humidity as well, so it is NOT a dry heat).
Anyway, the amount of news over the past few weeks wasn’t all that much, but with the time of year being relatively dry right now anyway (kind of like a post-E3 drought), it’s pretty much expected until the next big trade event and/or sudden news announcement. That’s not to say we haven’t forgotten any news. We can’t cover everything all of the time, so if you want to help out, sign up to be a writer!
We have had a couple premier posts from new writers over these weeks as well, from Megafire123 and CHEETO. Thanks for coming aboard guys! Like all of our writers, I hope you stick around and post more!
With that said, be sure to check out the entire recap, as there are a lot of articles to go through, and you might have even missed out on something that interests you. Be sure to check out the Community News tab as well. Lots of contest coverage and a plug for my upcoming Gran Turismo 5 tournament.

Not much in terms of new features, but I am proud to say that our site has been very active and love the fact that we seem to be getting a few more regulars as well!
We’re still open to new writers and also have a new incentive to do so: writers get 2 points for every new comment on their articles (minus their own replies), and since a lot of our posts seem to have been getting over 20 comments, that’s an easy 40 points!
We’re always finding ways to get you guys points, which are integral to things like giveaways, or simply for bragging rights. I think Jason has gained points faster than any one else in a given period of time
.
As far as the PS3BlogCast goes, during this time period, we have episodes five, six, seven, and eight! Be sure to give those a listen! We often have giveaways included within them, as well as a chance to double your entries in some contests!

This was actually a very busy period as far as giveaways go. First off, we had a LA Noire t-shirt giveaway for people who were able to find out clues hidden within the site. Some even did it just for fun, and it has gotten a lot of positive feedback. We will like to do something similar to that again!
We also gave away codes for Stardrone
; you can see the list of winners Winners of the StarDrone Giveaway”>here.
For Uncharted fans, we had a giveaway for a copy of the GotY Edition of Uncharted 2, so congratulations to the winner! We also gave away codes for the creepy crawler kickback for the Uncharted 3 Beta.
Currently, we also have a giveaway for Red Johnson’s Chronicles, a very well done point-and-click mystery game.
We also had a giveaway for the NormalTanks mini packed in with the review.

I’m still surprised we haven’t really scheduled any Uncharted 3 beta game nights, but I do have a game night for another game scheduled myself. The Gran Turismo 5 Christmas in July tournament! This is actually our first tournament, and was named so because my PS3 on the originally scheduled tournament date died on December 25th, and that tournament was scheduled for the 26th. A lot has changed since then, so this one should be fun. It even has more prize cars!

Sorry about this long-running poll, but we did get a bit of feedback from those who voted (also, you get points for voting if you didn’t know that). It appears a lot of people are going to pick it up eventually, while a few seem to want to get it now simply because of the price. 35 people aren’t going to get it, though (split between a “No” and “Not into handhelds”), while a few were going to pick it up regardless of the system’s price.
Summer has been going on for a few weeks (unless you live in AZ< where it has been going on for a couple months), so, thanks to Darklurkr23 (who will receive 200 points for the poll idea), we’re going to have the poll reflect what you’re doing this summer. Choices are open as well, so you do have the ability to add your own!

The Weekly Recap (June 5th-11th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on June 12th, 2011

For being a week that’s supposed to be full of news pieces and articles, this E3 seemed rather uneventful. Personally, I think there’s been a lot of missed opportunities, and we haven’t had enough writers around to really keep up with what was going on. Maybe the guys who went to E3 will write up some hands-on reports?
Anyway, with that said, we did get a lot of contacts from the event, so, in theory, we should have more chances for giveaways and contests (or even press events for detailed hands-on reports). Remember, to have your chance at going to such events, you’ll want to be an active writer, but normally, your activity directly affects your chances of doing so, so the more active you are, the better.
So, what big news did we get this week? Well, for one, the NGP/PSP2 is now officially called the PlayStation Vita (Latin for “Life”), and will retail for $250 ($300 for 3G), making the base model the same price as the competition. We’ve also posted a number of trailers, and even a hands-on of the device by Oly.
A number of trailers also sprung up during the event, which is no surprise at all, and is actually expected. The Team Ico collection has gotten a release date, and the God of War Collection Volume II will also be coming to the PS3 (which consists of the two titles on the PSP).
And the two last standouts: The MMO persistent shooter, DUST 514, has been announced to be a PS3 exclusive (due to the system’s openness), and more details of its integration with players on EVE Online (though a lot of it is still a mystery). And finally, three of Anonymous’ members (linked to the PSN security breach, among other things) have been arrested in Spain, which drives home the point no one can ever really be truly anonymous.

Nothing much new, but we did have some live blogging taking place at E3. If you wanted to watch the event live, you could have done so here.
And don’t forget, we still currently have Double Points going on for comments and posts (10 and 90, respectively; you also get double points for logging in as well), which should last until tomorrow morning. Too bad not too many people took advantage of it when it went live last week.

Sinlock managed to win the PS3Blogcast sound bite contest, with Grondimn coming in at a close second. Although Sinlock won the 150 points, since Grondimn was just seconds off, he had also received 100 points, so congratulations to you guys.
We also had a facebook and Twitter contest for Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Escalation map pack, so congratulations to those winners as well!

Turnout for this poll was pretty bad. Then again, the site’s traffic wasn’t as much as anticipated, either, but we still had a few people add in some answers. The most anticipated thing, according to this poll, was Uncharted 3 news. However, we did have a few optimistic folks hoping for some PlayStation 4 information (which I would think would be more likely at least next year anyway). That even beat out the NGP pricing and release date.
Also, I am 90% certain that EdEN added Project Cafe to the list, which only got 3 votes, tying with Metal Gear Solid: Rising.
This poll comes from the announcement of the price of the Vita, which, for the base model, is the same price as its immediate competition, the 3DS. We’re asking if, because of the announcement of the price (which is really lower than expected), are you more likely going to buy the system? Would be interesting to see the results of this one, because it IS lower than expected and a lot of folks were waiting for that announcement, BUT, on the flip side, not everyone enjoys handheld gaming. We’ll see where this went on the next recap
