The Weekly Recap (March 20th-26th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on March 27th, 2011

First of all, yes, I got this done in time for a change. I also dropped the “Poll Results” tab, as I already posted those yesterday/Friday on the last recap (which was almost a week late). I still have the new poll tab up, though, so you can vote on the poll for this week.
Anyway, it was a pretty uneventful week, and the number of posts shows it. QuickNews actually had more entries than the regular, front page articles (beating it out 18 to 15). That doesn’t mean we didn’t have anything interesting, though. For instance, our Portal 2 t-shirt and game giveaway went live (be sure to read the Community News tab).
While we’re still on the topic of contests, I would like to, personally, thank those who entered into the 6 year anniversary giveaway and said all those things about us. Hearing all the positive comments about the community makes it worth not getting paid to be part of the staff
.
Now, for the week’s highlights. Jason has been keeping tabs on all the sales going on (at least in the states), so it’s nice to keep us informed of those. Also, apparently, GeoHot fled to South America. Here’s a “surprise.” Duke Nukem Forever has been delayed. At least it’s only for about a month or so, but that’s besides the fact.
Battlefield 3 is being looked at for possible Move and 3D implementation (as said by the developers). That, in no way, means that the game will, indeed, include said features, though. We got a few more videos and an impressions post from Luke’s visit to PAX as well. Here’s hoping the upcoming week is a little more eventful, though.

This week was a pretty busy one, in terms of contests. Markus won the 6 year anniversary giveaway, so congratulations to him! And, again, thank you all for the support! Be sure to check that post out as well, as you can also win 500 points!
We also have the Portal 2 game and t-shirt giveaway. Remember, just because we have a few weeks before it ends, it’s better to get your entries out of the way now, because you might end up forgetting! It’s happened to people before!

Game Night activity has picked up a lot of steam recently, thanks to Jcmdaddy, as he had another Uncharted 2 game night going on. You can read a recap of that event here. If you would like, you can also see a highlight reel of the game they played last week as well.
Ace had also planned on doing a game night for the SOCOM 4 beta, but given how the download size was bigger than expected, Baba0Booey headed it instead. Beyond the comments, there has not been an official recap post of the event, though.

The Weekly Recap (March 13th-19th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on March 25th, 2011

Yep, another late one. I’m still trying to find time to do things, but between dealing with back pain and stressing out over other things, the days seem to go by in a flash. I’ve been spending most of my time on here lately helping around the community and working with some of you on a few things to help better the site.
Anyway, Tosh has updated my title somewhat. As you know, I’ve been officially labeled as the Community Manager for a little while now. As of this week, I also have the position of Editor-in-Chief. Though, keep in mind, some articles will go through with an occasional error here and there, but I will fix errors if I come across them. If you find one, and I missed it, let me know and I will fix it
.
Now, as for what went on from the 13th to the 19th, and what stories stuck out. We got a few more videos from Luke’s visit to PAX East this year, which all include gameplay. Despite not being able to record it, he also managed to check out Battlefield 3, which is sure to blow everyone’s mind. Darrin managed to go to SXSW, which happened during PAX, and didn’t let us know (so we didn’t have a live blog or anything), but he did write his own recap of the event.
Eddie, once again, got a bunch of NGP articles compiled to keep us up to date on what is going on with our future favorite handheld (subjective, of course). As for Kevin Butler, he showed off his S.H.A.F.T. method for MLB 11: The Show, so for a good laugh, check those out.
We also have reviews for MotorStorm Apocalypse and TNT racers by Trev and EdEN, respectively. Beyond that, Jason has been busy posting gaming deals and the like, which is a nice feature, but I will try to work with him to make them more pleasing to the eye, so bear with me! Be sure to read through the list of articles, both front page and QuickNews, as there is always more to read than what I talked about here.
Also, don’t forget, you can donate to the Red Cross to help with the Japanese tsunami relief through PSN (the denominations are fixed, but it’s a worthy cause, and you get a free theme).

It’s been 6 years since we posted our first article. With that, we had a giveaway for a $20 PSN card (linked below). Not much in new features, but we did get a new chat system, which makes personal chats and private chat rooms possible. Definitely a nice upgrade.

For the past few weeks, and upcoming weeks for that mater, the number of giveaways we’ve had/are having has picked up quite a bit. First of all, as I said on the last recap, winners of the SOCOM 4 beta have been announced.
Since then, we’ve also had a Slam Bolt Scrappers giveaway, and even had that $20 PSN card giveaway for the blog’s 6 year anniversary. Luke has also acquired a number of t-shirts from PAX we will be using, including the Aperture Science t-shirts we’re giving away with Portal 2.
It’s always a good idea to come by and see what we have going on for contests! Usually, you can spot those announcements in the green box in the sidebar.

Game nights definitely seem to have been picking up in recent weeks. Jcmdaddy had scheduled an Uncharted 2 game night on the 17th, with a recap of the event the next day. Oly had also set up a game night for Hoard on the 18th (if you can even call it that as it wasn’t, exactly, a planned event).

Updated the old poll with the current vote tallies, and, for the most part, it all stayed the same (in terms of placement, not vote number), save for “Awesome Already”, which now stands at 8 votes.
The poll for this week (and next week, due to how late this recap is) is based on Dynojunkee420′s idea on peoples’ opinion about online trophies (as in games that have trophies requiring you to play a game online). He will be rewarded his 100 points soon.

The Weekly Recap (March 6th-12th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on March 18th, 2011

Yeah, I wound up being late again. It was a pretty hectic week for me, as I was busy editing video and the like for the site, and given slow upload speeds and slow rendering times for the videos, it was a long process (plus I had other things to do as well).
Anyway, enough of my complaining. Last week was a relatively quiet week in terms of number of posts, but we did have a bit of news come out of that. First off, PS+ members finally got the save game cloud, which will come in handy for those who might get a YLOD and no way to get their saves back. We also got a look at the main villain of Uncharted 3, a new L.A. Noire gameplay video (as well as a collection of videos and trailers for other games; be sure to check all those out).
We have our review for the PSN title, Stacking, up. Although there have been mixed reviews, this one does a good job of telling readers what to expect from the title. One of our members also posted an editorial of his favorite and least favorite games, and that sparked an interesting conversation, so check that out, too.
As far as Sony, itself, goes, a few UK studios have had projects shut down to focus more on already-announced exclusive titles to keep their quality up and release in a timely manner. Sony was also affected by the earthquake in Japan, and had some of its plants shut down. If you can help with disaster relief in any way, please do so!
PAX East also took place, and Luke managed to attend all 3 days. He got us a bunch of videos and interviews, and will also have an upcoming t-shirt giveaway. I wish something like PAX would happen here in Arizona, though
.

If I recall correctly, we had this new chat system set up last week, but we didn’t describe new features until earlier this week, but it seems most people have figured it out anyway. Personally, I like the new system, but I wish staff, like myself, could engage in the private chats with anyone online, as opposed to having to be friends in order to use it, but that’s just me.
Overall, though, it’s definitely a nicer system than the previous one we had, and makes private conversations much easier, as we no longer have to do that @@name to PM someone in the chat; and it’s more secure.

There were a couple contests last week. First off, the winners of the InFamous 2 DLC codes can be found here. We also have the winner of the Cannon Fodder: Paper Wars contest as well. Hope you are enjoying the game!
The SOCOM 4 contest for some beta keys started last week, and concluded this morning, so congratulations to the winners!

We had held a March 10th Game Night in Killzone 3, in which Ace also posted some video of himself playing as well. You can read the recap here. Chances are, we will have more and more Game Night videos in the future. Personally, I’d like to record the final race on our future GT5 tournament, whenever I am able to do that.

The majority of people seem to want a better site design. As Tosh mentioned in our anniversary post, we are currently working on that, so be patient! As far as some other results go, more giveaways was an obvious choice for a lot of people, better copy editing was another (not sure what you’re asking for there; if you mean editing in general, we’re working on it
). A referral system got a few votes, as did those who said we’re awesome already.
I also don’t know where the “Merge with thePlayStationshow.com” came from
, but someone wants it to happen. Personally, I think that is very doubtful haha.
Anyway, we will take your opinions into consideration and see what we can do to change it up for ya, but in a way that works, of course.
Given the short amount of time needed for this poll, we will be skipping it for this recap, but on this week’s recap (which I hope will be up tomorrow), we will have a new poll for you.
The Weekly Recap (February 27th-March 5th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on March 6th, 2011

It was a relatively slow week. We do have a few reviews you can check out, even one that includes a giveaway for the game that was reviews (Paper Wars). Normally, during the Game Developers Conference, we would get a whole lot of news, but this year was rather uneventful, with maybe the highlights being a couple NGP features, and inFamous 2 getting a mission creator. That’s about it.
We’ve got a bunch of game videos to look at, as well as the new MLB 11: The Show ad featuring Kevin Butler. There was also a pretty cool off-screen gameplay video of Battlefield 3.
There are also 2 ongoing giveaways, and one is supposed to end tomorrow, so be sure to read the Community News tab for that information. We also have the double points activated on the site as well. Nothing much beyond this, really, as it was a pretty slow week.

Not much new beyond setting up a Podcast, which we’re hoping to start sometime this month. Also, currently ongoing until the 14th, we have Double Points in effect, so if you want to stock up on those, be sure to become an active member and take advantage of it while it lasts!

Currently, we have two giveaways going on. One is for an InFamous 2 alternate costume and a static theme. To find out how to enter, check here.
The other giveaway is for Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder, with details, and a review of the game, here. Apparently, it’s a lot more fun than it looks, and there seems to be a bit more interest in this giveaway than what we’ve seen on similar ones in the past. Might have to check it out when I get the chance.

Quite a few of you are subscribed to PlayStation Plus, and those who are seem pretty satisfied with it, while only two votes went to those who weren’t satisfied. Though the results towards satisfaction were high, those who do not have PS+ still came out as the majority. As for me, I’m pretty satisfied with it; especially since, for me, it paid for itself in the first couple months!
I came up with this poll idea, in an effort to reach out to the community and readers to see what would get you guys to be more active participants on the website. I could only think of 2 answers, so I left it open to allow for you guys to give your own input by adding your own answers. If you already voted, but had another answer in mind, just let me know!

The Weekly Recap (February 20th-26th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on March 3rd, 2011

Sorry for being late on this one. Still have a bit of back pain going on, so I haven’t been able to sit and work on this. Anyway, last week wasn’t too active, but we still had a few decent articles for you to read.
Killzone 3 released last week, so we posted the launch trailer and held a Game Night. We also got our first glimpse at Battlefield 3 gameplay (before the new trailer that was released earlier this week). A new Skyrim trailer and the trailer for the upcoming PSN game, Orcs Must Die!, were also released.
Speaking of OMD!, be sure to read my hands-on preview! The giveaway is over, though, and the prizes have already been shipped out, but the game is a lot of fun, and I think I need to get you guys interested in it
. On the subject of previews and reviews, we also have a DC: Universe Online review, written up by SL33PY.
Eddie posted another NGP news roundup, and there has even been news that Unreal Engine 3 has been released to be used for the device. As far as the rumor mill goes, it is believed that Resident Evil 6 will be a timed PS3 exclusive much in the way Resident Evil 4 was on the GameCube.
The final post of the week, Sakinah’s post on using 3D glasses for multiplayer games, showcases a really neat concept that might be pretty cool if it were implemented. Though people would need 3D TVs with glasses for it to work, the idea is awesome. Be sure to read about that, too!

From the looks of it, there aren’t really any new features. Given the poll results, though, it seems a few of you would be interested in listening to a podcast, so Ace and I will be working on getting that going soon.
Just a heads up, we will also be trying to occasionally get exclusive giveaways on there for listeners, too.

The only contest we had was a swag giveaway from my trip to Plano to check out their upcoming game, Orcs Must Die! Here are the winners; I also sent out the prizes yesterday.
Don’t forget, though, we also have a current giveaway for Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder, as well as a few more coming down the tubes, so stay tuned for those!

From the looks of it, a lot of you would definitely be interested in listening to a podcast. Once Ace and I iron a few things out, we will make an announcement on it with a few details, as we would like to get the Community involved with it as well. Stay tuned!
This new poll idea was by Beastjasonx, so he will get 200 points for the idea. With that said, this one is more aimed at those who purchased PlayStation Plus. Basically, are you satisfied with the service?
