Very simple question, can I use a standard AC->USB wall charger to charge my Dualshock Sixaxis PS3 controller? (I plugged it in and it didnt flash like when it's plugged into the PS3 so I wasnt sure)

Yes, you can, but still requires a certain amp/voltage, which i'm not sure of. I use a few different ones, some work, some don't.

I have one that works and one that doesn't .. If it's not blinking it's not charging.. or fully charged.

There is an official sony dual port usb charger. I picked it up on clearance a long time ago for $4, but that was years ago

Hmm never really thought you could charge a controller without your PS3. I'll definitely be using the TV method, hate having to turn it on just to charge a controller.

@kennygk: I rarely charge it without the PS3. When it is running out of battery, I just get closer to the TV and plug it in. But yeah, there is the odd time when I know I'll need the controller to be charged to play and do use the TV since it is pretty much on 24/7 hahaha.

Yea I don't mind PS3 charging, it's only an inconvenience when you have a bunch of people over and your all really far away from the PS3.

I never thought about my tv, that's a great tip.
I sometimes use my xbox 360 to charge them or the pc that is next to the tv

never. I have two official controllers, one third party wireless and two wired. I generally use my official. swapping them when i forget to charge.

I recently bought a move charger (third party, charges up to 2 moves and 2 navigations) and it's so awesome I think I might buy one for my controllers. It's just insane to think I'll never have to worry if my move controllers or my single navigation controller is charged again. It's an entirely different level of convenience.

@hobbes, I've never had to replace a controller for that reason or any other reason. I still have my non-dualshock controller I got with my fat PS3 back in 2007 I believe.

It happened to me a few weeks ago. My kids have taken my 3 PS3 controllers into their bath (I dunno how they did this without me noticing), so they basically scrapped all them. Turns out that after a few days, I was able to charge them, but as soon as I removed the power cable, they would stop working. I received a new controller battery I purchased from ebay last week (3$) and I'm writing a post on PS3Blog on how to replace the battery. The post should be live in a few days.
