I just upgraded to a dual band router, hoping for a faster connection for my ps3, but apparently it doesn't read 5ghz. Any suggestions on how to get there?
hmm, maybe an ethernet to wireless adapter? Not sure. 5GHz isn't nearly as common as 2.4GHz, so I assume that that's why, but regardless of the frequency, it won't necessarily increase your speed. That's controlled by your ISP, not your modem or router. If it is a wireless N signal, the PS3 only does b/g. At that point, you would need an aforementioned adapter.
Just my 2 cents. Wired is always way faster. I can get 18mb wired and 6 wireless. Huge difference.
Pertaining to your post:The PS3 does not have the ability to transmit on the 5GHz band nor over wireless-N Your stuck with 2.5ghz. So keep it wired Keep transmit power control at 100% and do not change it to 300Mbps etc etc
if you live in the USA, you can register and enter to win the HP200AV, which lets you have the faster wired connection without having to use a long wire. The devices communicate to each other through your house's circuit. Plug them directly into an AC outlet, and plug your router, via an ethernet cord, from one of the ports on the back of the router, into the device, and on the other device, run an ethernet cord from your PS3 to that device. The kit comes with two (short) ethernet cords you can use as well.
Currently, Jason has the best chance of winning, though lol.
