My 40gb 3 year old ps3 sit's on a pedastle.. and i always keep it dust free and have never had a problem except.. my hard drive is full.. the only thing that i dislike about it...

Mine 60GB (fat) is still fine, I have it vertical just by my tv in the open. Sometimes I do a light vacuum around the exhaust ports if I notice some dust.

My 80 gb from release in 07 died about 4 or 5 months ago, but I know people who have had there ps3 since launch and haven't had one problem. The only thing i would suggest is cleaning the dust out and keep it away from hot objects, also keep it in a open space.

My launch 60Gb died back in october.I never had a problem with it,I kept it dusted and it had plenty of ventilation.I was playing a game for a few minuites one morning and it died.I bought a slim to replace it.

My PS3 Slim is out in the open and well ventilated. Dusted every couple of days to avoid it being a problem. So far everything is great but it IS a rather new system.

Well, I have a near-launch 60GB. Played all the time. Never had an issue with it. The 360, I had gone through two RRODs. As far as fixing it goes, if they didnt have to replace the mobo of the unit, your saves should be fine (I would back them up first, just in case they format your drive anyway), but...
