hehe anytime mate, hope Jay's method work for you. Personally i can't get my NAT settings right since i started using satellite internet, but still connection is fine and downloads work like a charm.
I've had the same problem, when I first started playing my PS3 it took me a couple months until I finally could update a game.
It took a LOT of configuration from NAT type to IPs and still it doesn't work properly all the time. When it happens I usually just quit the update, turn off the PS3 and start again, it usually works.
I'll try turning that media server thing out (because mine also keeps getting disconnected) and see if it changes anything. Ii'll try to find the configurations I use to see if they work out for you.
Another annoying thing that happened to me (when I had that problem) was I couldn't keep a steady connection with the PSN until I entered a game. when I'm playing it's fine but if I wasn't it was on and off and on and off… weird right?
K, it's confirmed….Jay is the MAN!
I disabled the media server option and it worked like a charm! Guessing once the media server kicked off, it locked up the DL in process.
Now to figure out the networking nightmare of getting my media sent correctly to my console (both consoles have media streaming issues). But I'm pretty sure thats some firewall issues….something that can wait.
Least I can update with no problem now!
I would advice to install this on your windows, Linux or Mac and give it a shot. i did, and its working like a charm. follow the instructions and you will have a virtual server to stream whatever the hell you stream to your PS3. And it will support most of the video's and audio's formats available on this planet, among other things that you will find out on your own
