The tech in Kinect isn't new at all BUT Microsoft had a chance to make it even better up until they decided to remove the speciallized processing chip from Kinect units and leave that to the CPU thus making it eat up resources.
This is why you need a controller in your hand and why the processing power isn't really there right now for something like Kinect to work properly. Maybe next gen, Microsoft?
Oh, and remember all the fun every "hardcore" gamer made about Wii injuries back in the day? Paybacks a bitsh, huh?
my friend seems to like his Kinect a lot, at least with the Dance Center. 3rd parties are doing a lot of cool things with it. SONY should have done this with the PS EYE.
Microsoft just release a statement…
"As for the future, we've got a brilliant line-up for 2011 but it's ultimately about Kinect."
well…it was a good run 360….you might still make great sales….but horrible games.
I haven't really had a chance to try either motion controller yet; but my step brother got kinect today. i'll check it out and respond here with what I think.
I tryed Kinect at Frys Electronics and was not impressed. The distance required for accurate movement is not going to sit well with college dorms or those who game in thier rooms. My son refused to even try it (13). He felt it was for kids. the concept sounds good on paper but I need something in my hands. The one title made by the guy who did rez looks fun but it is coming to ps3 with move so other then that kinect fails for me.
Then theres this coming for the pc-[China Hi-Tech] Chinese Firms Demo Motion Controller
The sensor unit in operation. Both ends of the unit are emitting light though it cannot be seen by the naked eye. The light is created by infrared LEDs. There is an STB under the sensor unit.
