Has anyone else noticed that it looks so similar to the Eye Toy it's not even funny.

The tech in Kinect isn't new at all BUT Microsoft had a chance to make it even better up until they decided to remove the speciallized processing chip from Kinect units and leave that to the CPU thus making it eat up resources.

This is why you need a controller in your hand and why the processing power isn't really there right now for something like Kinect to work properly. Maybe next gen, Microsoft?

Oh, and remember all the fun every "hardcore" gamer made about Wii injuries back in the day? Paybacks a bitsh, huh?

my friend seems to like his Kinect a lot, at least with the Dance Center. 3rd parties are doing a lot of cool things with it. SONY should have done this with the PS EYE.

Microsoft just release a statement...

"As for the future, we've got a brilliant line-up for 2011 but it's ultimately about Kinect."

well...it was a good run 360....you might still make great sales....but horrible games.

I tryed Kinect at Frys Electronics and was not impressed. The distance required for accurate movement is not going to sit well with college dorms or those who game in thier rooms. My son refused to even try it (13). He felt it was for kids. the concept sounds good on paper but I need something in my hands. The one title made by the guy who did rez looks fun but it is coming to ps3 with move so other then that kinect fails for me.

Then theres this coming for the pc-[China Hi-Tech] Chinese Firms Demo Motion Controller
The sensor unit in operation. Both ends of the unit are emitting light though it cannot be seen by the naked eye. The light is created by infrared LEDs. There is an STB under the sensor unit. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn290/gajason143/chinect.jpg

As a known hater of all things Motion-based (yet sadly owns all of them)...

I've got to say that the Kinect is EASILY the best option of the bunch....as far as possibilities go. It's just a shame that there's only one title currently out that showcases it's goodness (Dance Central). Not that it's a Dance game (I'm FAR from a dancer), but for the simple fact that it's EASILY the most responsive title to be had.

Better then the Wii strictly in the motion category (Wii ultimately wins thanx to it's implementation of a standard control scheme), better then Sony's Move from the sense that Move is something that's been done before (albeit a better version).

Myk you fanboy 😛 just kidding lol. I really have no interest in any motion controlling device whatsoever.

My real problem with Kinect is after playing it, I realized there were people behind me snickering/pointing/laughing. A buddy of mine brought it into work and we played it in the tech break room. After watching for a bit, I realized how goofy it makes a grown ass man look. When we play Wii in the break room, we never get those responses.

lol my buddy is a big time MS fanboy but we get along. Only dude I know that owns 360, Kinect and Windows Mobile 7 lol. but he is a cool cat.

Not like I don't deserve that title...

And I think your point further strengthens mine. I mean, no one is laughing at you when you're playing the Wii cause it's not fun to watch you. With Kinect, it's just all around fun....whether you're flailing like a wet-noodle having a seizer, or simply watching the guy doing so.

What you play? Did you have a good time or where you too consumed with looking like a dork to have fun? Reason I ask is as a gamer, I'm not purchasing anything motion related...but as a dad, I have to recommend it.

Honestly I have yet to try it but I think like @myk26 said "Dance Centeral" is the best game out there for it. That seems like it would be a lot of fun. I know this thing has sold a crazy amount of units, but I am not sure if it can be called a success because so far all the other games are crap.

My cousin and his sound tried it out and weren't impressed. My cousin said that the tech is great but it's just ahead of it's time. Seems like everyone loves the Dance Central game though.

Yeah, that's really about it. Dance Central, months later, is still the only "killer app" for it.

I got to play it shortly after release, as a friend of mine had this agreement that I'd let him borrow Move for a week if he let me borrow Kinect. When he brought it over, we spent 2 hours setting up my living room so it could be useable. I'm not too proud to admit that I live in a brand new Clayton mobile home, 16' wide, so there's really only about 14' space when you factor in the entertainment center which houses all my gaming devices. Ultimately, we ended up having to move my entire computer desk so Kinect could somewhat function, and it still had issues of being "too close". That was the first dealbreaker, and that's when it dawned on me that every ad for the Kinect shows canned families in a gigantic, wide open, den. Let's be realistic: That setup is honestly not the case for most people, even homeowners.

When we finally got it working, the first game we tried out was Kinect Sports. Even he admitted the difference between Kinect Sports and Sports Champions was like night and day, in Sony's favor. The games in Sports Champions were more fun, more responsive and more accurate. Kinect Sports, like Kinect Adventures, suffers input lag from a few milliseconds (very unnoticable) to a second or so (very noticable). It's just not as accurate as they'd like you to believe.

Dance Central was great, but I couldn't get past the fact that, in reality, you're just watching a computer avatar dance, and that avatar NEVER messes up, even when you do. The most you see of yourself is in a grayscale window in the top corner. The system grades you, sure, but I would have enjoyed the game more if the actual on-screen representation of myself messed up when I did. Instead, it was like watching a professional dancer in mirror. You don't even have to move. He'll keep on dancing until you fail out. It was fun at first, lost its luster after about an hour.

It's very telling when the most news about Kinect over the last 3 months has been the adaptation of Kinect for uses outside of the X360. PC modders using it for WoW. Microsoft including Kinect connectivity with WinMo7. The impending release of an official SDK for Kinect by Microsoft. The "WOW!" factor just isn't there.

A little less than a week ago, I started considering selling my 360, so I started doing some research on exclusives for 2011. We all know Gears of War 3 and Forza 4 come out this year. But beyond that, there isn't much. There's two Kinect titles, a couple solid XBLA titles, that new Crytek game that no one seems to know much about, and that's about it. There's a lot of speculation about a possible Halo: CE remake or Halo 4 from 343 Industries this year (I don't think we're going to see another Halo entry until 2012 and, honestly, I don't trust 343 Industries and/or Microsoft to not turn it into a COD-esque, once per year shallow franchise game), and many of the "lists" even went so far as to include COD Timed Exclusive content as if such content is its own game.

Microsoft is clearly banking on Kinect to keep them afloat this year between Gears 3 and Forza 4.

But I'm not seeing the WOW factor or the games to make Kinect anything more than a novelty item.

Said friend still has Kinect.

It has a layer of dust on it, just like the Wii he owns.

Meanwhile, I'm playing KZ3 with the Move and just put my 360 on Craigslist.

LOL!

No, people are laughing at because while playing the Kinect everyone looks idiotic. You're "playing" with nothing. You're jumping invisible barriers. Ever been to a bar and seen someone really drunk playing air guitar? Yeah, see, you point and laugh at him because he looks like an idiot.

Same exact thing here.

I have yet to hear how looking like an idiot =/= fun…

Providing the game being played is fun (unfortunately only one current game deserves that title…but I'm hoping the best for Gunstringers), is it not a blast to also laugh at your friends while they are having fun?

Stop acting like you don't like pointing and laughing at others….EVERYONE loves to belittle!

As for the complaints about the games coming out...maybe this isn't the thread to get into that, but I'm struggling to see a lack of titles. MAYBE if great titles like L.A. Noir, Homefront, Dragon Age 2, Crysis, insert your favorite multi-plat release ONLY came out on PS3, then you would have a point. Not going to pretend the PS3 isn't going to have a great year (games like Uncharted3, KZ3 and the like are awesome)....but the insinuating the 360 is in for a horrible year is the furthest thing from the truth!
