June 7th is the date that everyone has been waiting for. Nintendo unveils their next home console at E3 in Los Angeles. But Loading can already now reveal some of the hottest (and most trustworthy) rumors about the machine. This is all we got to know about Nintendo Feel.

Our source, who has a close connection to the company, speaks about the console in a conversation with us. We choose to deliver the information unedited and untranslated [from Eng to Swe]:

– Nintendo wants to change the way we play – again. The success of Wii was essentially proof that the controller is every bit as important as graphical technology. When Nintendo unveils its next piece of hardware on June 7th, the presentation will be as much about the feel, as the look, of its new games. The revolutionary aspect will once again be found in the controller itself.

After Touch comes Feel
We already know Nintendo is developing a controller with a built-in screen. Since that info got leaked there have been paralels between Apple's iPad and how Nintendo used the GBA as a controller for a few Gamecube-games. Hardcore meets Casual
After having recieved the information on Nintendo Feel from our source we have gotten confirmation that the technology exists. Toshiba seems to have shown it to the public and we have had a Novint Falcon in the office for a long time. Novint was one of the first companies to introduce haptic feedback to the gaming world.

According to our source the work for the new console has been going on for a few years, and throughout this whole time the goal has been to create an as direct and easy-to-understand concept as the Wii.

– You have to try Nintendo Feel to really understand. But the idea itself is very easy to sell, no matter if you are aiming for hardcore players or the wider audience that was first introduced to games through DS, Wii or Kinect.

And sure, anyone can suddenly realize the feeling of fur agains the fingertips would do for Nintendogs. Nintendo Feel is on many levels a summary of all the grand visions Nintendo has had during the latest gaming generation. Starting with the Rumble Pack for the Nintendo 64, Nintendo gave the player physical feedback through the controller, and 2006 they started the concept "Touch Generations" to marked the Wii and DS to a whole new audience. If we get to see a "Feel Generations" marketing remains to be seen, but one thing is sure: The new console is an extension of the idea of more intuitive controllmethods.

Also the individual screens revived the "Connectivity" concept launched during the Gamecube/GBA era. A concept that never got the impact Nintendo was hoping for. Our source says:

Don't put too much attention to the name. It could just be a name that developers are calling it for all we know. Nowhere in the article does it clearly say "This IS the name".

Loading.se is a very reliable news source. They would never intend to decieve people. It is more likely they got wrong info, but even that sounds farfetched. Compared to the other rumors flying around, I'd say this is the best lead we got. This is coming from an avid user.

See, I DO make a difference! I've converted Eddie to the fun and colorful side! Hahaha. Thanks for the thread Eddie. I've been extremely busy at work and since my daughter is just a month and a half as soon as I'm home I'm on baby duty till 1 a.m. so the wife can get some rest.

Ok, what about price point? I see it launching first week of November 2012 with lots of supply to make the most of black friday/holiday sales at $349-399 depending on what the price of the controller is. Now, on to the controller:

 

If the screen rumor is true, then $99 per controller makes sense. A Wii Remote Plus++ and nunchuck would also be included in the bundle and retail for $50 and $20, same as right now. You could also use your current Wii Remote Plus or Wii Mote with Plus dongle for most games but ++ would become the "standard" for new Project Cafe releases. Why the quotations? because there could be a case for games that are co-op and one has the screen controller and the other the WRP++ and Nunchuck.

 

Nintendo will go with propietary media discs as to not have to pay anyone royalties for every game disc printed. 25 GB seems doable but that might be a "per layer" number, thus opening up the way for 50, 75 or 100 GB discs down the road.

 

8 GB of flash memory for storage is the name being quoted everywhere but let's wait and see on that. Project Cafe-ware games could be limited to 100-300 MB tops with great compression algorithms (look at Jett Rocket to see what great programing and compression can do). Wiiware is set at a 40 MB so 100-300 per game could work. Just make the SD reader future proof so it can read SDXC (which currently sit at 64 GB for $120 and are sure to double in size and go down in price by 20-40% by next year) and we're set.

lol I'm a Wii hater…not a Nintendo hater :p

Def don't see the wii-mote being bundled in.

They won't need more than 25 gigs ever I'm guessing for their media.

As far as the 8 gig built in flash…disappointing. 100-300mb files would just be sucky games especially when 3DS games cover up to 2 gigs…that means your portable will be playing better games than your console will lol.
