at the movies (in Australia, at least):
- Inception
- Toy Story 3
- Scott Pilgrim
These three are my favourites of the year so far.
Everyone should make sure to see Scott Pilgrim, it's not doing as well as I'd hope!
Otherwise:
- Pan's Labyrinth
- Shaun of the Dead
- Hot Fuzz (these last two are the same director as Scott Pilgrim)
- The Fountain
- Children of Men
- Serenity
- Unforgiven
- Up
- Wall-E
- Moon
- Let the Right One In
- Kick Ass
- In Bruges
- Slither
- The Machinist
- The Prestige
Should be enough to start with, no?
Space Balls
Princess Mononoke
and have to agree with Tosh Spirited Away great film. My kids love it.
And as gay as it sounds Almost anything Disney
True I dont know if new stuff reall counts due to most of it was Pixar. I did like the Princess and the Frog. And the new Tangled loks good. My go to is always Aladdin.
I'm always unsure about recomending this to people as a movie because I feel it's better if they've seen the series before hand but if you get a chance watch Neon Genesis Evangelion and the film End Of Evangelion. It's a classic anime series that shows that animation is more then just 'kids stuff.' Of course I notice a few others have posted various anime related films so I imagine most people here are already aware of that.
Also on the Evangelion side, the new movies titles Rebuild Of Evangelion which are a sort of retelling/brand new direction for the story are avalible. Those are:
Rebuild Of Evangelion 1.11
Rebuild Of Evangelion 2.22
They are making a third and forth film but no news on them as of yet. The two films are great though, they do a good job of updating the characters and telling a new story.
None anime related I'd recomend the Pink Floyd film, The Wall. It's the story of the album, it's a bit trippy and weird but a very nicely put together movie and worth a watch for anyone who liked The Floyd.
Also going to throw in my favourite Star Trek film First Contact along with the new one by Abrams. First Contact features what I feel is Treks best villain The Borg, up against it's best Captain Picard. The plot has many parallels to Moby Dick just as one of Treks other greatest films does (Wrath Of Kahn) but this to me is my favourite. The newest film I'll also recomend because it just like Rebuild Of Evangelion does, does a great job of updating the characters and telling a new story. No it's not Trek as we know it but Trek as we knew it was in need of a facelift and a new direction and Abrahms & Co did a good job here.
Gonna have to echo Jimmys sentiments on Mel Brooks films, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Men In Tights and even Dracula Dead & Loving It, all really funny films.
