500 stores x 5-8 people per store is a lot sure.. but there's also the argument that those store should never have been open in the first place. Whatever you feel about gamestop for or against. I think I can convince you that they had too many stores. Especially considering all the complaints (or lies) they would constantly spew about their lack of money and how much things cost them. You can't justify having stores every 6th block. The gaming industry is not one that needs that much presence.

You have a point there.
Even in my suburb, we had 2 gamestops in the same commercial center. The second had been open for about 8-10 months before it had to close.

you could even argue that what we're seeing is the WalMart effect.

WalMart comes into town undercutting all the local stores.. then when they're functionally gone shoots up the prices. GameStop has decimated the likes of the now mythical mom and pop game store and even the smaller stores like Game-n-Trade, absorbing EBGames, etc. If I was a paranoid person I'd just call this the beginning of the other shoe dropping.

Of course I could also argue this is a sign of the industry finally caving in on itself.. but there's a lot less drama in that.

I won't argue that that is alot of stores, there are 7 store in London. However it's sad to that sort of failure and the ripple effect it has with the people involved. This is the first step in shutdown process I am sure. By 2017 they will be gone. New systems are still disc based for now.
