So I just bought a used fat 60GB PS3 the other day and I picked up GTA IV and Elder Scrolls Oblivian.  I have never owned any of the playstations before and been a primarily PC or Nintendo gamer. Any recommendations for the best PS3 games out there? What are they best this system has to offer?

k, God of War collection, as well as God of War III, which releases in less than 2 weeks, Heavy Rain and Metal Gear Solid 4 if you want to be immersed in story (MGS4 would be good if you're were familiar with the old games, though), Uncharted 1 and 2 if you like gunplay, puzzle solving, platforming, action/adventure, Resistance games are pretty good, though, you might get more out of it being a FPS fan. Ratchet and Clank Future titles would be excellent if you like action-oriented platformers, Killzone 2 is an excellent FPS title, inFamous is good if you like open world games (though, you play as basically an anti-hero/superhero) LittleBigPlanet is good for 2D platforming (especially since it now has over 2 million user created levels) and is a great game if you want to express your creative side. If you're into party and quiz games, Buzz! is great for that.

As far as racing games go, there isn't too much in terms of exclusive, but GT5 is coming out this year. To tide you until then, I recommend Midnight Club LA (if you're into an open world, arcade-style racing game) and Need for Speed: SHIFT. Congrats on your purchase, too ;). 2010 is looking to be the year for PS3 when it comes to exclusive releases (though, 2009 was great, too). Don't miss out on any of the other third party titles either. Batman: Arkham Asylum is excellent, too, and next month, Rockstar will be releasing Red Dead Redemption, which is, if you've been following gaming at all, basically GTA set in the old west. They might also reveal the PS3 exclusive Agent sometime this year as well (if they reveal it arond E3 or a little earlier, it will definitely be out later this year because Rockstar North likes to hold out on media and information until that time frame).

There's too many to list haha

Thanks for the titles. I have alot of catching up to do. I think i may get the God of War games next, and Red Dead Redemption sounds fantastic.

What type of games do you enjoy playing? Uncharted 1 and 2 are both great. Assasians Creed 2 is also alot of fun. I highly reccomend Borderlands, and if you are enjoying Oblivion, Fallout 3 is similar, but takes place in a post apocylpse earth, with better graphics. Mario Bros fan?, then Litlle Big Planet is a must own. The user created levels can be amazing, nd this game will have new and exciting levels for years!

Uncharted 2 was the best online experience I had, and stunning single player mode... It is on sale for $40 now, and a steal for that prize...

First I'd suggest picking up some of the awesome games that were released 3-4 years ago.

Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4,Resistance 1-2, Uncharted 1, Little Big Planet should all be $20-$30 now.

Get CodMW2 or Borderlands. Both good shooters and will last a long time. CoDMW2 has a better multiplayer online experience, but Borderlands has a really long campaign with almost 3 DLC released. Demon's Souls is a really awsome RPG, but if you rage easily at games, don't get it. You will die ALOT. But it's worth it. God of War, all of them, not just 3, is a good hack and slash button-masher with tons of puzzles and over the top boss fights. All these are good picks.

Heavenly Sword

Bioshock

Dead Space

God of War Collection

God of War III

Both Ratchet games

Batman: Arkham Assylum

Demon's Soul

FF XIII

Disgaea 3

3D Dot Game Heroes

Overlord Raising Hell

Overlord II

Four $50 PSN Cards and another topic for PSN games.

That should have you set for months, specially if you like to get Platinum trophies.

For me Batman: Arkham Assylum is better than Uncharted 2 but that might also have to do with me being a huge Batman fan.

Both games in the Uncharted Series. These are the games Tomb Raider should be, clever writing, great gameplay and in general fun.

Demons Souls, I actually picked this as a Highlight Of The Week for my Blog/Radio Piece when it came out in the UK. It's a game people should take notice of and at least give it a try. Yes it's incredibly hard but don't let that put you off, the game itself is about learning the enemies patters, the best routes to and from areas and it is a lot of fun and such a great feeling when you're able to get it right.

On the PSN I'd recomend Wild Arms. Not enough people have played this game and I've taken it upon myself to make sure people are aware of it. Why? This is the first RPG I ever played and over ten years on I can still play it and love it. It's not got the greatest graphics, especially in combat but it makes up for it with a huge world and a great storyline.

Valkyria Chronicles is a good turn based RPG/Strategy Game, it should be quite cheap now and it definitely worth getting. The graphics are beautiful, they're done in this watercolour painting style and I think it shows that games don't have to have the most realistic looking graphics to look amazing.

Since you're a new PS3 owner you should subscribe to PS+ since that way you'll get PSN, PSX, minis, DLC, themes and dynamic themes, avatars, etc. with your $50 and chances are you haven't bought any of the games that will be given out in the service in the coming months.
