Anyway, although I don't exclusively listen to Classic it is within this realm my musical tastes developed. I'm a lifelong fan of Meat Loaf, Zeppelin helped fuel my desire to delve into music a bit deeper, the Floyd got me into Progressive music and inspired me to play guitar. Hendrix blew my mind with what he did and bands/artists like Sabbath, Maiden, Alice Cooper, Yes, King Crimson and Rush provide a soundtrack of my past few years.

I think what differentiates the eras these bands were in compared to now is that people don't tend to respect musical talent as much anymore. I see a lot of artists and I do think a lot of them are talented, theres no denying the talent of pop artists Lady Gaga, Beyonce, etc. They can either play instruments or sing very well but aside from the occaisional one or two there is too many carbon copies and no really desire to be unique. It's a shame because you have bands like Dream Theater who have been moving forward to 25 years, taking what their forefathers created and forging a new genre and inspiring thousands across the world and they get ignored because they do it their own way.

Can you imagine what he could have done to music if he hadn't died when he did? I mean, Rock music really reached it's peak in the 70s with COUNTLESS great bands, but Hendrix, he had a style all his own, and it would have been interesting to see where his psychedelic/acid/blues rock would have progressed to further in the 70s (where Pink Floyd kind of dominated psychedelia, which later transformed into progressive rock). The question is, would Hendrix have done the same, you know, going from the acid rock to progressive, or further enhanced what bands like Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc did with helping to create the heavy metal sub-genre?
