Introducing Disney INFINITY, a unique toy based video game where a spark of imagination unlocks the freedom to play with some of your favorite Disney and Disney/Pixar characters in their respective worlds like never before. Game features include extreme game customization and character mingling in ‘Toy Box’ mode, the inclusion of everything needed for initial play including the base peripheral and three initial character figures, multiple virtual play areas, additional collectable characters/figures, single-player and multiplayer options, and unlockable online and mobile content.
Disney Interactive announced today that they, along with Avalanche Software, will be launching a new Disney-themed video game with the release of “Disney Infinity.” The game will release in June 2013 on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, PC, mobile devices, and Nintendo 3DS.
Disney Infinity integrates collectible character figures that come to life in the game. These figures provide experiences that are true to these characters and stories, as well as the opportunity to bring characters from various Disney and Pixar films to play together in a virtual “Toy Box.”
I’m thinking SKYLANDERS with a twist.
Initially there will be 40 “collectible” interactive pieces, 17 character figures, as well as, interactive discs (power ups) that can all be placed on the “Infinity base” to play with in the game. Although this sounds like fun, it also sound like it will get expensive really fast. I mean now that Disney owns Marvel and Lucas, we might see thousands of these eventually. Oh how exciting!
Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause series, and the more recent Renegade Ops, has told IGN at GDC, that it will be revealing one of two in production games at this years E3.
Avalanche founder Christofer Sundberg told them that the new game won’t be a sequel to Just Cause 2 or Renegade Ops, but that it “will run on a modified version of Just Cause 2’s Avalanche Engine.” This greatly dissapointed me, however also give me hope for a much better game. Just Cause 2, although cheesy cut scenes, happens to be one of my favorite games of all time. (If you haven’t tried it, I believe there is still a great demo, and it is only $19.99 on PSN right now!)

Renegade Ops is a game that does not take itself seriously with it’s over the top voice acting and its cliché characters. You can tell it get its inspiration from 80’s action movies. We have the bad guy you love to hate, Inferno, who wants to blow the world up. Your typical “I am a big tough guy that takes no crap” General Bryant, who wants nothing more than to stop him. The UN are talking about negotiations with Inferno, which pisses Bryant off. He rips off his insignias, storms out, and swears to put a stop to Inferno. Now the fun begins. You start off getting to choose between four characters, each with their own vehicle, skill tree, and special power.
