Win a copy of Heavy Rain from PS3Blog.net

Heavy Rain Giveaway

I decided it’s time to give something back to all the loyal members of this site. So I’ll be giving away a free copy of Heavy Rain! To enter this contest you have to a member, and it’s free to register.

This contest will be done a little different. You will be using your points to “buy” a lottery ticket. Each “Lottery Ticket” will cost you 250 Points, you may enter up to 4 times or 1000 points max.* To enter the lottery click on the “Donate Points” link in the side bar. It’s right above the poll once your logged in. Then put in lottery as the username and donate your points.

If you already have 1,000 points, then your set. But who knows when another contest may come up. So it would be wise to stock up on your points. There are a variety of ways to earn points. New members get 100 points just for registering and if you visit the site daily you get another 15 points. You can keep track of the points you’ve earned by clicking the “My Points” link at the bottom of the sidebar.

I’ll be picking a member/lottery ticket at random on Feb. 21st, 2010 at 7 p.m. Mountain Time.

* Anything over 1000 points donated to the lottery during this contest will be ignored, and you would have wasted them as well.

New Heavy Rain Trailer – To Catch a Killer

All the footage in the trailer is rendered with the in-game engine. Pretty impressive. I hope this game sells well.

Heavy Rain Chronicles – Become the Origami Killer and more

Real Origami Killer

One of the Heavy Rain Chronicles will involve you playing as the Origami Killer. Which will be very interesting after you’ve beaten the game. Another Chronicle will include FBI profiler Norman Jayden. In this one you’ll find out about his drug addiction and his scar. There is also one about photographer Madison Paige. She investigates a taxidermist and gets into trouble. I think I’ve seen part of this in past trailers if I recall correctly .

Most of these Heavy Rain Chronicles are essentially prequels to the story. They will last about an hour. I’m sure there will be Chronicles for the rest of the characters in time.

Side note: Here is how to make a the Origami Killer calling card.

PlayStation 3 is the best platform for Heavy Rain

David Cage, the founder of Quantic Dream’s and CEO said Heavy Rain is only possible on the PlayStation 3. An attendee in the audience at the Eurogamer Expo had a question for him and his response was:

“Whatever I answer, my answer will be suspicious… Honestly, I don’t think so. I think it had to be on PlayStation 3 for two main reasons: the hardware, the architecture of the PS3 is extremely powerful in the way it is structured. If you make a real PS3 engine, then you can have really fantastic performances. If you try to port from another platform, then it becomes difficult.”

Cage continued, “This is a console we all love at the studio. I play PSOne, PS2, it’s really a part of my culture. The controller is part of my home… and it’s a really, really powerful console. I’m not so much into graphics, to be honest with you, I don’t believe you need ultra realistic graphics to get emotion, you can get that with very low graphics. But we wanted to create emotion from believable characters, that was the idea. With this approach PS3 was by far the best platform.”

He didn’t really say why the PS3 is the best platform other than it being powerful and he likes it. But I think Sony is more open with these different types of games. Personally I will be picking this title up.
