Oh how I have loved the God of War games. In my opinion, they are among the coolest of titles on PlayStation. Some might say that the series may be overstaying its welcome, but I say as long as the story’s good, and they keep the gameplay as fluid as it has always been, bring it!
At E3 this year, Sony showed off some very intense gameplay from the next title in the GOd of War series, Ascension, which still has the series’ signature fast-paced, bloody action and an assortment of mythological creatures (with this one showing off some new ones, including what is likely going to be a future boss fight sticking its tentacles where they don’t belong). Anyone else looking forward to this one?
Alright, let’s get the obvious out of the way. What does this game remind you of? What other game had themed levels based on the characters, or the worlds from which they came, within the game? You guessed it. Super Smash Brothers. Except this game has Kratos, a Helghan soldier, Sweet Tooth, and the hardest of hardcore, Parappa the Rapper.
The game was originally announced back in April, and had some gameplay footage then to go along with it. At E3, however, it was revealed that Drake and Big Daddy would also be characters, and that the title will also make its way onto the Vita, with cross platform play to boot. With the inclusion of third party characters, and given that Big Daddy is even a multiplatform character, who else can we expect in the roster?
Even though it seems like a rip off of SSB, it could still be a lot of fun, at least for quick spurts of fun. As a kid, I enjoyed going over to my neighbor’s house and having tournaments on the N64. Some PlayStation fans have never played those games, so this could be fresh to them.
When I first watched the preview behind the concept of Datura, I was very excited. I am a sucker for innovative and artistic games. I crave games that challenge my moralities and keep me guessing until the very end. Datura is like nothing I’ve ever played. It is a psychological thriller inside the twisted mind of a man, that feels more of an interactive experience than an actual game. The bizarre story and rich environment will keep you hooked the entire time. Unfortunately, the time spent in this magical dream is disrupted, on many occasions, by the lack of deep and fluid controls.
Santa Monica studio announced a multiplayer mode as the newest addition to the GOW series. In the latest installment, GOW: Ascension, a 4 Vs 4 teams will compete in a series of objectives for the ultimate gory wins. There will be 4 classes affiliated with the old Greek gods: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Ares, and this will dictate what abilities, strengths and weaknesses you have to make the most of.
