Sony’s Stringer banks on Cell, Content for Growth
It looks like the Cell chip is a priority for Sony’s new head honcho, Mr. Stringer. Mr. Stringer thinks that the PS3 is only the beginning for the Cell proessor, saying “New intelligent devices will be powered my smaller and more powerful processors and will be directly connected with one another.” The Cell processor was codeveloped by Sony, IBM, and Toshiba. (Yup, the same Toshiba that is currently battling it against Sony’s BD with their own HD-DVD.) Sony has even set up a development team to look for new applications for the Cell processor.
With Sony banking so heavily on the Cell processor, I wonder if it might even make its way into the eventual PS4? I know, I know. The PS3 hasn’t even been released yet, and here I am talking about the PS4. But I think I may be on to something…
