PS3 RSX

the INQUIRER says that nVIDIA’s G71, due in Q1 2006, is the RSX chip due to be the graphics engine of the PS3. The RSX “is set to work at 550MHz and Nvidia can guarantee that a million chips will work at this speed as it’s not that challenging at this process level. Nvidia can obviously make G70 work fine at 550MHz but it can not ship millions of those chips, more likely tens of thousands.”

This news is making the rounds recently, though I’m not so sure it really means anything. The graphics chip in the PlayStation 3 is the nVIDIA RSX, it’s a great chip, and it may be the G71 nVIDIA’s shipping next year. Okay… so where’s the news?

But you know, I thought I’d pass it by you, my great and loyal readers, to see if maybe you can glean something from this news than “yeah, okay”.
