Playing Call of Duty 3 for PS3 Online
Sunday night I tried out Resistance: Fall of Man online. So last night was gonna be my Call of Duty 3 night. It didn’t go as well as my R:FoM night.
First off, I bought a new headset (more in another article) to use online, but it doesn’t look like CoD3 supports voice chat. Either that, or there was nobody online with a headset.
Secondly, when I tried connecting to games, I often got an error saying something like “Could not connect to all users.” Great. That happened far too often.
Finally, I found a capture-the-flag game that I could enter. (I had actually wanted a team deathmatch game, but I couldn’t enter them.) That was crazy. The teams were very lobsided, and the team I was on got gobsmacked. Just creamed. The vehicles are way too powerful, and the people on my team (me included) didn’t seem to know how to use them. I get into a tank and try to cross the bridge and I get blocked. Great. Get out of the tank, walk around for ten seconds, and die. Once I actually managed to steal their flag and bring it back to my home base, but I didn’t know what to do with it! I was standing around trying to figure out what to do. Finally I just dropped it. That was stupid, but I didn’t know what else to do. I saw someone else on my team pick it up. Hopefully they knew what to do – I didn’t have time to find out because I died. Then the game just ended – BAM! I got kicked out. Nice. Not!
Then I entered a free-for-all deathmatch game, and that was a little fun. The level was too big, though, for the number of players.
All in all I was quite disappointed by Call of Duty 3 online. The maps themselves are gorgeous. I loved walking around and just looking at the level. But actually playing the game didn’t work so well for me. So I played more Resistance.
