GamesCom Rumor Round Up!

I love video game industry rumors because they create so much hype and so much interest about events, consoles developers and games. Not only that, but every great release or tidbit of actual news, is born as a rumor first.

I’ve rounded up a few rumors from industry insiders that have a bit of credibility and are PS3 related for GamesCom.

First the obvious. PS3 Slim and Price Cut. When we saw the first images of the alleged PS3 Slim in pieces at a Chinese manufacturing plant, the rumor was immediately shot down by most. The rumors snowballed overtime and seems to be an unstoppable and inevitable force now. Currently the most believed rumor of the Slim states that August 18th it will be announced and pre-orders will begin with a launch date of Sept 2nd with a price cut of some sort.

Next up is the PSP App Store will be unveiled. With the announcement of the PSP Go, Sony showed us some software that will be used to manage our digital data and in transferring it from PC to the PSP. With this service very much like Itunes, rumors of applications and mini-game possibilities began to pop up all over. Sony has since confirmed the apps and mini-games stating they have over 50 developers that currently work on the Iphone/Itouch, now working on the PSP.

Third rumor up is Game Republic (Genji and Folklore) will be announcing 2 entirely new IP’s. One of them may be PS3 exclusive. Not much more is known but I would love to see a sequel to Folklore.

Fourth rumor is that Housemarque (Super Stardust HD) will be announcing their new game. Now this is a little more then a rumor since the developer have already said they are working on a new game with “shooting to be an integral part of the game”.

Fifth rumor, and one I personally believe will never manifest into more then a rumor, the return of backwards compatibility will be announced. It was taken away in move to save money on Sony’s part much to gamers disliking. We do know that Sony has been looking at methods of emulation, but I fear it will never come to fruition.

Last rumor that I could dig up was Media Molecule may show their new game that they personally have dubbed “revolutionary”.

That’s it for now! If more rumors pop up, I’ll be sure to update.
