The Weekly Recap (March 28th-Aprl 3rd)

[tab:This Week]
Well, here’s my first Weekly Recap as an official co-writer! Unfortunately, on my end, I haven’t been up to the task of reporting news the past couple weeks. A lot is going on on my end (so I’m sorry about being late on two of the weekly features, but we’re only human, right?). Anyway, I definitely don’t appear to be the only one either. Most of the heavy hitters have been away this week, and as a result, we only wound up with 30 main articles (but we did manage 7 QuickNews posts). Even Oly, whose life goal now is to surpass me :P, has had a busy week.

Anyway, without boring you to death with a monologue of the condition of the Community, here’s some of the highlights this week. First off, if you haven’t yet, be sure to read Sinlock’s review of Afrika. While we’re on the subject of reviewing, we’ve also learned that Trev fell victim to the YLOD :(. Darrin has impressions of Blue Toad Murder Files, though, so you can technically call that a review.

There was also a lot of talk and controversy surrounding a few subjects this week as well. The biggest ball buster? Linux support being dropped on the 3.21 Firmware update. There’s a lot of conspiracy surrounding that one, but the general idea is that it was because of the hacker GeoHotz, who also made a public apology on his site, taking blame for Sony’s actions. Some people thought it might be an April Fool’s joke, but it did, indeed, become a reality Thursday. Other hot topics? Talk of Sony’s portable future and talk of the PSP2. Ace had also posted about cross-game chat, but it was an older article. As far as we know, they’re still working on that.

Be sure to go through the rest of the articles in the Gaming News tab for the other links, including those for new trailers, game information, videos, and even a few fun things. Unfortunately, though, PS3Blog didn’t have anything for April Fools (though, there is a link to one). I did have something planned, but, unfortunately, never got around to it :(.

[tab:Community News]

Where to begin? I guess first off, I can now officially say that I’m a co-writer for the Blog now! No longer am I common scum like the rest of you! (Just kidding, except for Oly*).

Anyway, congrats to the T-shirt winners, Ceidz and Fatalveli! If you’re still interested in getting a shirt, you can buy them for yourself, as well as a couple other products with the blog logo ;).

QuickNews also got a few enhancements, which are really nice and still look good, if not, better, on the home page. We can now view things like pics and whatnot after using the More tag, which is really helpful (check out my Incredibles LBP DLC article for an idea of what you can do). For those accessing the site on a mobile device, Tosh added a help video on how to do so. While we’re on that, Tosh added a couple other Help videos besides that, like how to use Tabs and the “More” tag, so if you’re wanting to write better or get an idea of how we made some of our posts, be sure to check those out :).

Not much activity in the Game Night group, but if you have something planned or want to plan one, be sure to join and post about it! I played a game of BFBC2 with Emrah the other day, and had a blast, but that was impromptu and not planned at all. There is also a group set up for our Mockers clan, so if you’re interested in that, be sure to read about it here.

I’ve talked to Tosh and we will be having poll results posted bi-weekly, so be sure to come back next week and check out the interactive graph then ;).

Well, that’s about it this week. We definitely saw a lot of controversy over a few subjects this week, but in the end, it’s definitely nice to see opposing views and engaging discussion. As long as people know that everyone else’s opinion might not be the same as theirs, and respect that, then we can have such topics and discussion. Always remember, you can express your own views, but still be respectful. That’s how we want the Community to stay :).

While we’re on the subject of Community, if you know of any gaming events, post it on the Calendar by using this link, if you have permissions to do so. Also be sure to check out our growing list of Groups and join the ones you’re interested in. You also get 100 points just for creating one as well!
